I'm not really enjoying this that much. Like many said, it just doesn't feel like the Suffocation I'm used to.

Suffocation is largely a household name in the death metal genre no death metal band is a household name.

How are the albums from 20 year ago not valid reference points?
they are, but my point is that you spend most of the review comparing and not enough describing what the album is like. even when you tried to describe the drumming for example, all you did was say it wasn't as good as it was 20 years ago.

he was trying to communicate the value of the music, not describe the sound of the record in detail. if you want to know what it sounds like, listen to it. if you want to know how it was interpreted and understood by another person, read a review.

it doesn't even have to describe the sound in detail though. it can still be "this isn't as good as classic suffocation" while describing the sound to explain why. do the riffs lack originality? is the drumming not as varied, or too monotonous? etc etc
