This album is more intense than you're living all over me. It's definitely not as immediately gripping, but it's growing on me. They're such a fascinating band.

If you haven't already, check out the book Our Band Could be Your Life by michael azerrad. There's an amazing chapter about them in there. Puts their early music in perspective. The relationship between J. and lou barlow was at the breaking point when this album was made. J. wrote pretty much the whole thing, including "Don't" which was apparently written about barlow. He got barlow to sing it and supposedly he coughed blood and threw up afterwards. So crazy

mascis was just kind of an emotionless control freak, and Barlow was so afraid to express his opinion that it built up into a mountain of passive-aggression. After you're living all over me, Barlow pretty much spent all of his time working on Sebadoh, which was just a solo project at the time, because he felt he had no creative input in dinosaur

No it's more diverse than that. Some of its really upbeat. All kind of weird. Like art-pavement
