Fine review of one of the best live albums! I owned the double LP and loved it's energy, power and moments of peaceful rest.

"On the side note, you can feel that Roth is too big to be “trapped” in a band like Scorpions. A guitar god must be free and we should be grateful that he captured some of his magic in conventional hard rock songs."

I never payed much attention the first time i read this. Very, very well put my friend ;)

Finally i got this on my collection. And it's the deluxe version !! Some extra tracks make it so much sweeter. Some times i cannot get enough of Uli Roth.

Yessir it is, We'll Burn the Sky off of this is one of the best moments in rock imo, it's usually what comes to mind when i think of the best guitar solos ever

I also realise that's the tenth time I've said that in this thread but it's the truth

Cool to see they still talk about their early days

For what I've seen they almost deny their 70's era. Like "we were just experimenting back then. Our real deal are commercial pop rock songs!"

You can look at it by watching how 70's lacking their live set lists are

it's a shame they almost neglect their roots but who can blame them ? they wanted to become rich and famous and the succeeded. Who cares about the days they were a poor unknown band who never scored big sales ?

Even if the music was miles better...

Yeah, they've stuck to doing a 70s medley for ages now, occasionally playing a full 70s song in full but it's so rare. What's worse is that Mathias Jabs is totally capable of playing the songs, they used to play a lot of their Uli-era material from 79 to 81, so idk what the catch is, espacially with youtube and stuff, all their albums are easy to find, people know their old stuff now more than ever tbh

Let's face it

Most of their "fans" don't even know their 70's material

If you get the chance, catch Uli live, he does a lot of old Scorps material these days. It's probably the better show (vs Scorpions today)

Pos'd. I agree this is a very good live album. Listened to it 123 times and with headphones and eyes closed it was almost the real thing. By the way I like the rock ' n roll covers and the Japanese folk song too.

^check Uli's "Tokyo Tapes" that he did with his band. Almost as good if not better than this.

It is Klaus Meine, not Maine. Thanks although for reviewing this classic live album. I love the rock n roll covers and the Japanese folk song, but of course the Scorpions songs are the real highlight.
