I don't get why people pan "Lying Lies," "Mother May I," or "Once Upon Your Dead Body." Sure, they're pop-y prog rock songs, but that's what Coheed's all about (or, at least, were, before GA2). They take a slightly different approach in songwriting to some of the other tracks, but as far as direction goes, they're still spot on and are terribly fun. I honestly enjoy this album in full (though maybe a little less than Second Stage). "Wake Up" is also great, as is the hugely emotive "Always and Never" - its alright to slow things down, especially if you do it as well as it's done here.

Lying Lies and Always & Never have grown on me a lot since this but Mother May I and Once Upon Your Dead Body don't do anything for me tho
