Just got done with my first listen, It's pretty good overall. I found the Brendan Perry lead tracks to be the strongest and Children of the Sun would be the highlight for me. I wish some of the instruments didn't sound so fake though, I think it would sound even more powerful.

You'd better have, man!

I heard the first track off this and loved it, although it dragged too long for me. Is it pretty indicative of the album as a whole?

It's likely that you would feel that way about some of the other tracks.

That's definitely the most listener-friendly, accessible track in the bunch (not that any are too out there), so I would say that that aspect is pretty indicative of the entirety.

Good review.

While "Children of the Sun" is excellent, I felt like "Anabasis" & "Agape" were the weakest on this album (more so for

"Agape" since it sounds too similar to "Anabasis", imo), & for the past 2 of my 3 listens, I skip from 1st to the 4th.

Despite hating to do this, I have a very low tolerance for near nonsensical Eastern style singing; I had enough of that

from Bear McCreary on BSG & every other fucking American action move involving some sort of military scene. "Amnesia"

& "Opium" are easily my favorites, however, & the rest of the album is excellent as well.

Just got back from seeing them live and it was quite an experience. They mostly did songs from this album (they did every track) and it actually made a lot of them sound even better.

The only two masterpieces I can see are Anabasis and Amnesia... and maybe Kiko.

Nah, I'd say the new album would be closer to their later work like Into the Labyrinth, though it's still different from anything they've done in the past.
