Singer's voice has a bit of that shakiness to it like the singer in Young the Giant (not a nervous shakiness, but I think you know what I mean).

I've checked out two songs so far the second one is Heaven and Hell and... :'( so beautiful..

"already loved TCC, and Cities is my favorite album ever...way to send my hopes skyrocketing Davey!!!!"
Praying that this doesn't become your 'New Surrender' Freak! ;-)
"summary sold me"
Was eactually a late change for the shill factor. Looks like it has worked for at least 1 person.
"I remember them doing a kickstarter, but didn't know if they were successful or not. "
What actually happens if they are "unsuccessful"? Do people get their money back? Does there have to be some kind of reserve target in the 1st place?
"This sounds like something I would really like, You And Me Both is a great song"
I'm unsure if that's technically the lead single, but it's probably a good choice to be.
"This rules, has way more depth than their previous releases"
Agreed. Even 'The Silver Cord' isn't close on the "depth" scale.
"I actually find the music to be lackin "uhph" sadly"
I think you mean "oomph". Haha. I can understand why many would feel that way, but I don't think that was the band's aim.
"Singer's voice has a bit of that shakiness to it like the singer in Young the Giant (not a nervous shakiness, but I think you know what I mean)."
Unsure I do. Do you mean, like a natural sounding emotion that makes him sound sincere OR that he just has a fault & goes out of key?

It's all good, it just can't possibly have anything on Cities to me.
@Davey: The singer of Young the Giant has this vocal style where on certain notes it seems almost as though his voice literally vibrates. (Ex. when he sings in the verse "on my way TOOooOOOooo your apartment" in the song "Apartment")...yeah singer here does that a few times too

"Heaven and Hell and... :'( so beautiful"
I preferred the word "gorgeous", but let's not argue over such trivialities. :-)
"It's all good, it just can't possibly have anything on Cities to me."
Well, there's nothing as amazing as '(*Fin)' here, and obviously timing & nostalgia also play a part. This may actually be more consistent than 'Cities' though.

Thanks for the correction sir, I couldn't figure out the correct spelling!

I'm not saying the vocalists suck btw they're great hahaha just saying what this guy was doing reminded me of another singer

Great review Davey. I'm so pumped now to go pick this up on tuesday. I don't seem to remember you mention any negative parts of this record. What's keeping it from being a 5?
Oh, and about the Kickstarter funding deal: there is a donation "goal" that has to be met in a certain amount of time. People who "back" records don't get charged on their credit cards until the project has raised X number of dollars. (I never got around to back this but I did for Showbread's upcoming record)
|
| |
Well they must have way exceeded their goal because the production on this is huge

Like Waior insinutaed previously, I don't think MacDonald is the most distinctive or original singer out there... It's just that his voice can be near flawless at times.
Great question Zero. It's main weakness is partly due to the track ordering & partly to do with it maybe being 1-1.5 songs too lengthy. If you listen to the album in its current order, there are going to be a few listeners who believe that tracks 8-11 blur into each other a little too much. Or if not blur into each other, just don't hold up to the quality of the previous 4 tracks. Having said that, I have listened to this album in many different orders & individually they all hold up well enough. I think you'll know what I mean when you listen to the album.
Agreed skoopy. It just goes to show that with a little blood, sweat & tears, you don't need a million dollars to produce a superb album.

YES. Will read when I get home and am on a computer.

Loved your sound-off Eko. Hope you like the review.
Don't build up your expectations Gardener... BUT IT IS! At least, in feel.

Wow, I love the Classic Crime, but still wasn't expecting a review this good. I'll have to give it a listen as soon as it comes out now.

If you already loved them, then I'd have a few tissues ready if I was you! :-)

"I actually find the music to be lackin "uhph" sadly."
Exactly how I'm feeling. Drummer and vocalist are very solid but it is generally lacking the grandeur I felt of Cities. Although Heaven and Hell is pretty legit. Seems like a 4 thus far, not quite as awesome as Cities imo
|
| |
Dont think its on the level of cities either, but its more consistent than that album, highs arent as high though
|
| |
Anberlin actually got that way around Cities in my opinion. You might not like their first two albums but I felt they were very consistent. Cities and New Surrender were not and then I felt DITWLIAP was a return to form, there just weren't many epic tracks on it.
But back to Classic Crime... it is very consistent but almost to the point where as Davey said tracks run together
|
| |
Also, dude's voice is reminding me slightly of Brendan Urie

If we had to compare the albums, then skoopy has it pretty much spot on. I guess that since I wrote that summary, it's only natural to compare them. I just hope people don't mark this album down on the comparison alone.
Nash, Panic! have been used as a comparison for these guys before... I personally don't hear it (other than the carnivalesque song on 'Vagabonds'), but I may give the 2 voices another listen for the sole purpose of comparison.
