I have heard just Le Porte del Domani/At the Gates of Tomorrow. For some reasons Luxade seems to be the more appealing to me.

I found Luxade on youtube, and its songs are individually offered. After one spin, album kicks major ass. Probably my fave of theirs, so feel free to start your investigation there.
Edit; Finally, Il Grande Labirinto >
And I bumped up the debut album at a 4 even if they injected couple of passages that remind me too much of PFM, Genesis or Finisterre.

I've found that the founder of La Maschera di Cera was Finisterre's bassist, so I think it's normal.
Jethro listen at 2:32 of "Back From the Void", anything familiar? [:
Also, this is probably the most exhaustive guide about RPI: http://www.italianprog.com/

Yeah I know that Fabio Zuffanti is Finisterre's bassist. He's also among others the band leader of Hostsonaten. If I was him, I'd pay attention for not composing something too similar to Finisterre but in a way, he always can do a nod and a wink to another of his projects.
As for ''Back From The Void'', I have no clue. It sounds like some good Neal Morse or Ayreon, but nothing too precise. Can you give me a hint?
At 1:51 of the same song, it's the same keyboard notes as the first few seconds of album Felona E Sorona though, but I guess there must be some more similitudes between both albums, as the themes intertwine...
I think at 3:37 of ''A Word For Two Worlds'', it's another passage taken from the original Felena E Sorona (not sure but anyway, there surely are some winks here and there throughout The Gates of Tomorrow, but I cant detect them all, i need to re-listen to Felena E Sorona in full)
Thanks a bunch for the RPI link! I keep it with me.

I don't know Hostsonaten, but the guy seems really prolific. Really a lot of prog to dig, wish I had more time.
That's one of the themes of Felona e Sorona! (Sospesi nell'Incredibile, 1:21).
You're right, there are a lot of recalls from the original opera, even I couldn't spot all of them because I've started the two albums almost at the same time. It's easy to get confused between all the quotes, you never know what comes from where.

Yeah there are couple of other common themes to be found on At the Gates of Tomorrow, but they are relatively subtle. I'm way more familiar with Le Orme's Felena E Sorona, but I had to revive my memory since I never knew it by heart. But I knew from the start that the original version is the best composition-wise. Both have a similar atmosphere, and they use the same instrumentation and similar arrangements, but it's hard to measure up to a classic album from the 70s.
I'm not sure if you would dig Hostsonaten. It's a delicate, instrumental symphonic rock music centered around keyboards and a gentle electric/acoustic guitar. Very melodic, you could call it pretty music...maybe too pretty, very laid back. I wouldn't mind if music was a bit more up tempo. You can try their last one since you love classical. It's neo-classical tinged.
Fabio Zuffanti is more prolific than I thought, as one can see into his ProgArchives page (biography). In effect, yesterday I discovered that he also led a solo career. I added it all here to the database. Try his last solo release ''La Quarta Vittima'' (2014). It's as prog as it can get, with vintage sounding;

I read that "La Quarta Vittima" should be his best solo album.
About Hostsonaten probably I will check his stuff all together.

Yeah, according to ProgArchives, La Quarta Vittima is by far his best solo work. I dig that album so much. I have yet to listen to the rest even if the ratings are rather average.
As for Hostsonaten, it seems you cannot go wrong with it. Ratings are all above 3.5/5, always on ProgArchives.

Yeah. Major highlight of this record for me.

^Agreed!
Album is a fierce beast. Probably the heaviest symphonic prog out there. There's an atmosphere of constant tension. And the rare few times of respite are mostly welcome between that tumult. Maybe I could 4.5 it myself, let's see what I can do.

Nice review man but I must correct you about MR's political views; in the album no far-right ideas are expressed. This might be confusing because Nietzseche's ideas and were taken by nazis and edited to make them cohesive with the far right view the reich had. But the philosopher was absolutely not a far-right thinker, in fact he had an anti-dogmatic and kinda anti political view.
|
| |
MR expresses the freedom from tradition Nietzseche believed in and nothing more. Even the Übermensch (Superuomo in italian) was not referred to the "great leader" as the nazis wanted people to think, in the original Nietzseche view, it was represented by the kid, free from tradition and influences.

Sorry for the long text, I just want to put my little knowledge here; the review is great anyway

Sorry guys, he's insulting me because I joined singing a different line.

Album begins with a bang. That organ and mellotron!... Love the last few minutes too. ''Della Natura'' is perfect.

I said animale not figlio di stronza
Gotta say, I prefer the album's second half to the first one
