Definitely took me a few listens to get into it. Not as good as 59 Sound, Sink Or Swim, or Senor And
The Queen, but those set the bar so high it's not fair.
It's clear Fallon isn't making punk rock records now, but this is still great. I'm missing the old
Sink Or Swim Gaslight, but they're definitely going in a good direction as they shed their punk
influence. None of the songs jump out at me as amazing, but they all have something about them I
really like.
Ended up changing my rating to 4.5 because every song is consistently good.

These guys are seriously a perpetual 3 band for me.

There are several really, really great songs on here, namely "Handwritten", "45", "Blue Dahlia", "Mae" and "Teenage Rebellion" but that's about where it stops for me.
The slow, bluesy songs are what kill it in my opinion. "Keepsake", "Biloxi Parish" and especially "Too Much Blood". It just doesn't sound like The Gaslight Anthem, it sounds like Brian Fallon singing for a radio rock blues band.
I get the need for a band to evolve their sound, and I respect them for doing so. It was kind of a disappointment, but these guys have put out some of the best music in the last 10 years, so I'm not about to hold it against them that they made an album that didn't meet my expectations. Hopefully this isn't their swan song. I'd rate it a 3.5

So far I like the title track the best. It's a great record, but I think it lacks a bit variation. Hoping it'll grow on me some more.

this is way more consistent than American Slang imo and there are a few standout moments, but not nearly as many as on the first two records
