I've never really liked Nirvana, never seemed to interest me...

Once again, you review is great.

George Bush dont care about black people.

Does that have any impact on this arguement? Think about it...seriously...it does.

It is a little known fact, but sales from Nirvana albums in the early nineties went to fund Al Queda operations based in Seattle. Those flannel shirted fundamentalists decided (to throw the stinky pigs off their trail) to put a "W '04" bumper sticker on the back of their band.

Now when Kanye West was on his tour in early 2004, he made a stop in Seattle. He stepped out of his Bentley (or Rolls...it doesnt matter) and all he heard was Lithium, by Nirvana. These crazy jihadists had the bright idea that the element lithium could be used to create WMD's and were doing a little research. They had the song blasting in their van trying to decipher the secret meaning that Nirvana put into that song (being a supporter of Al Queda and all...).

Back to Kanye...

Our (well, not mine) boy Kanye stepped out of his car, heard Lithium playing, "felt it," and then started freestyling, thinking he could rip off the beat for a new song. Well, little did he know, but our Islamic buddies were fighting over the liner notes, because they couldnt figure out why they needed to "shave their heads" and not "be sad" in order to make a WMD. Well, to make a long story short, they lost control of the ve-hickel and almost hit Kanye.

Now Kanye (being the quick to judge, dim witted, media starved brotha that he is) looked up and saw the "W '04" bumper sticker on the back of the Abumobile, and thought that Dubya had sent this van on a mission to rid Seattle of its black population. Kanye thought Dubya wanted to make Seattle a Vanilla City (eat your heart out Ray Nagin!).

Go figure...

Its all 100% fact. If you dont believe me, you are stupid.

;)

I do agree that some of the cd is filler but it ushered in a defined sound for the grunge scene. Its more like a template that so many bands used and still do. (seether, chevelle, anyone?)

Oh this isnt the worst one, Trexosphere. American Idiot has 8. 2 of them are any good.

Anyway to Iai's earlier comment, in which he said that fanboys exaggerate the quality of the album, I must admit that if there were no singles on the album and it did not blow up, chances are it would be a monster underground success. Overplaying kills albums, just ask Green Day, Simple Plan, Gwen Stefani, and maybe even Nirvana.
Overplaying kills albums...
Or maybe terribly-written, overproduced, dim-witted, musically and lyrically retarded, undeservingly massive albums take a shotgun to themselves because they're selfish heroin addicts.

I'm going to draw you back to the filler comment here - Nirvana's songs are simple yes, but filler... you could argue the whole album was filler as at Nirvana gigs only Territorial Pissings would make it to the encore/top of the bill. The vocals comment was a bit harsh, and as for lyrics Kurt always maintained the sound of the song came before the lyrics which he took from the Pixies songwriting school of thought. Nevermind wasnt the best, but it was a good album - and I gave it 5 to wind all you nirvana haters up cos you cant hate something just because its popular! This Message Edited On 03.13.06

Sorry I just thought of a tonne of other stuff I wanted to add since reading a few other comments! Ok so start off with the I dont like Kurt's guitar playing or vocals... neither did he...he couldnt understand why everybody else seemed to like this album, he didnt rate it and he especially didnt rate himself. Yes some people are right, Kurt's influences did stem from mainstream music as well as the underground Seattle sound - John Lennon, David Bowie to name but a few - is it a bad thing to like popular rock/pop? And if any Nirvana fan has come on here and said they invented Grunge they are idiots! Plus I like Mudhoney a whole bunch, but if their front man had the vocals of Kurt Cobain they would have been huge also cos I'd say musically Mudhoney were much better, but vocally Kurt had something special which has been IMO biasedly dismissed in this review

Anyways, yeah, this still sucks for me.

What I dont understand is how come "real Nirvana fans" call this album their least favorite perennially. I'd call myself a real Nirvana fan, seeing how I own 4 albums and like them all, but I find this and Unplugged their best. But real Nirvana fans jump at the chance to call me a poser.
