Nirvana basically got me into music, so I'll always have a soft spot for them. I also think this is their best album.

Nirvana may be overrated, but the raw & unfiltered songwriting on In Utero is amazing

not a Nirvana fan by any means but this was by far their best album imo and pretty good overall

Nevermind is a little better overall. On this one, there are a few songs that are clearly weaker than the others. Some of their best stuff is on here for sure though, yeah.

Nevermind is better imo. Might be because I grew up rockin out in my room with my bros with that album and didnt own this one though. Nevermind is a little poppier and this has some more experimental songs or whatever.

that's exactly why I prefer this over Nevermind. you can tell Nevermind was intentionally going in a mass-appeal direction. this album dialed that back a bit. I was never really "into" Nirvana so I don't have that sentimental attachment to any of them. Looking back I can def say I enjoy this the most.
Nevermind isn't bad...just horribly overrated imo

don't get me wrong, Nevermind has some great, catchy songs. this has just lasted longer and been more interesting for me.
radio def killed that album for me too. I'm sure that's part of it. one of many reasons why I hate radio now.

Ill never call Nevermind overrated because it almost single handedly killed all that shitty 80s music overnight. Even if bands like the Pixies were around before Nirvana was the one who took it global. Its too bad they helped spawn a bunch of shitty post grunge shitstains though. Whats worse... Warrant and Poison or Creed and Nickelback lol.

even with genres and influences aside, there is probably nothing worse than creed and nickelback
very little, at least

I watched the grunge episode of Metal Evolution on VH1 and they interviewed both Creed and Nickelback at the end. Scott Stapp got pissed off with the Eddie Vedder comparison and being labeled as "post grunge" and said Creed "created a new timeless sound". While Nickelback said people should go to one of their concerts and dig deeper into their records before they judge them because they have some "heavy sh*t in there".

Creed and Nickelback are worse, by far. They're not even guilty pleasures, unlike Warrant and Poison.

Yea but Id much rather have the Alternative/Grunge/Punk stuff of the 90s as a whole than the Hair Rock of the 80s as far
as popular music goes. Nirvana was a definite great thing for music even if they are a touch overrated. We could use
another band like them to shake things up. I mean there are bands out there who could do it but they're just not getting
the pub. Rock music has been almost completely taken over by pop more than ever.

Good review, disagree though

Yes, good review very well written. However I disagree too, this is my favourite album from Kurt & co and has been for the last 20 years.
As much as people think it might sound bi-polar or whatever, I think its normal that people have different sides to their character and different moods, who the hell is happy all of the time? This is honest, unfiltered, passionate music.
Kurt Cobain put his heart & soul into this album. I can't help but be swept along with the joyously discordant punk rock attack of 'Scentless apprentice' 'Radio friendly unit shifter' 'Milk it' 'Rape me' or 'Tourettes' but also the calmer sounds of 'Pennyroyal tea' and 'All apologies'

"Nickelback and Nirvana are on the same level"
Hahaha, I chuckled a bit for some reason
