Manowar try to go back to their early to mid 80's roots with this one. They need to produce a little more energy on their records than this in order to have an album with staying power. All their album since 1988 have been average. That is all Manowar will be until they can pull up their socks.

I like Manowar regardless but can't help but laugh at DarkNoctus' comment above.

Haha well I don't blame you, I laughed my *** off when I first saw this
(man, there are some stereotypes surrounding this band!!!)

My first Manowar album was Kings of Metal, so it could only go down from there. I am currently listening
to The Lord Of Steel for the first time. So far it is true that musically speaking it is much less daring
than what I'm used to.
About Eric's voice, very few male singers can sing in high pitch as they grow old. Rob Halford is an other
example ; I think it wouldn't be fair to judge that change like it's an artistic choice.
Production seems poor in this album. It's not loud like it used to be. Bass guitar is still very present
(Black List !), all for good, but the guitars really lack punch. While listening I almost imagine myself
in the recording studio, FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE GLASS. Usually, when I listen to a Manowar song I feel
adrenaline, electricity rushing through my spine, but here, nothing. Maybe it's the epic dimension
missing, but I'm sure post-production has something to do with that. Too fucking smooth.
Oh, and the Annihilation intro. Listening to it with headphones makes it feel really weird ; left and
right sides should have been blended at least a little. Also, am I the only one here noticing that this
intro is slightly off-tempo ? :S

I love Manowar and I always will, but this album is really their worst. IMO, they should focus on creating one last, great album and then go on touring for the rest of their career. They are ruining their reputation doing all this re-registered stuff and their last great album was "Warriors Of The World". Gods Of War was 50-50, TLOS on the other hand has 1 good song (the title track), the rest is awfully weak.

I'm pretty much in the same camp as Siamos' review:
"As for my opinion of the album... man, I knew Manowar had been going downhill for the last two decades but LoS may be a new low. It doesn't even sound remotely like the band they were in their prime. Computerized production through and through, boring riffs, lack of the catchy melodies of old. Joey DeMaio used to try things as a composer and bassist but not anymore. Eric Adams will certainly go down as one of the genre's top singers but this is his worse performance on record...."
I haven't read any mention that there was an original version of this album released, and it got such negative feedback that Joey declared it a "demo" version or some such, and they either remixed or rerecorded it and declared the new version the "steel edition" or some such nonsense... but there was no saving this turkey. Songs are dreadful. Face it, they are out of ideas, that's why they keep re-recording older albums (Battle Hymns, Kings of Metal)...

How more ridiculous can they even become?
Kudos though to Eric. He still got it.
