I would because of Sakurai leading the helm and Kazutoshi Yokoyama's contributions. Never have they've been so atmospheric based before or again plus their Gothic and ritualistic vibe here.

About ritualistic, I'm giving lots of credit to Sakurai here. Have you heard Explosion from his first solo project? Damn.

His solo album needs more love.
Regarding this album, Kazutoshi Yokohama did wonders for the sound. Not the first time collaborating with the band, but he outdid himself here.

I'll give it a crack after BT's discography is completed (Only got Arui and Aku left). Plus I should give SCHAFT a go.

God I keep forgetting that. Worth alone just for THAT version of Aku no Hana.

The Atsushi Sakurai rollercoaster never ends it seems. Not that this is a bad thing.

I like this so far compared to Kurutta Taiyou

Both albums are the band's pinnacles.

Six Nine is up there with both but I don't think you should touch that yet since it's by far their least accessible album, full of repetition and their darkest/weirdest outing.

Yes, just jam Darker than Darkness first. Then One Life, One Death.

Gothic rock
|
| |
It's gothic and it's rock, but sounds little like gothic rock, now does it? It's more eclectic, pop and bombastic than that. I'd go with alternative rock with different influences fused in. Not much hope for defining it more closely, because it doesn't really sound like anything else. On song by song basis, you can say Romance is kinda The Cure-like, Goblin is something J.G. Thirlwell could have been proud to make, Muma is very much a pop song, albeit the most epic one I have heard etc. But as a whole it's very hard to pigeonhole.
