Definitely the best era for music for me, but I just really like Psychedelic and Prog Rock. though the best Prog Rock is from the 70's.

Remember A Day m/

The beginning of the end for Pink Floyd. This album is a huge drop-off in quality. It's less consistent than Piper as the band is unsure which direction they wanted to take their sound in.
5 out of the 7 songs are penned by Waters who would become Pink Floyd's primary songwriter. It's evident the band tried to recapture the genius of Piper, but were unsuccessful. This is a watered down psychedelic record with a few good tunes scattered throughout.
Let There Be More Light is a good opener, but it's no Astronomy Domine. The riff and the vocal contributions from all members are decent enough. The keyboards are the highlight. The downer of the song is the awful guitar solo played by new band addition, David Gilmour.
Remember A Day is one of the best tracks on the album. Written and sung by Richard Wright (who was the second best vocalist after Syd), the song is an emotional tune looking back on childhood days. The piano melody is just beautiful.
Corporal Clegg is the band trying to write a Barrett style song, without Barrett... They are basically imitating themselves and it's not good. The whole song is a mess and the kazoo is ridiculously bad. Roger Waters awful war references are already appearing here 10 years before the release of the Wall. His boring war spew can't hold a candle to Syd's clever lyrics.
Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun is a darker, spacey track. The driving bass line, whispery vocals, and the drums really make the song. The organs are a nice touch as well.
The title track is pure filler, being experimental noise that goes on far too long. Compared to the psychedelic masterpiece Interstellar Overdrive which is constantly evolving, this song is a wankfest that goes nowhere and gets tiresome fast. It's obvious the band were running short on ideas and needed to write something to fill up the record.
See-saw is another Wright contribution, but it's a godawful track. How it made the album is beyond me. I would rather listen to Vegetable Man over this.
The truly spectacular tune on this album is Jugband Blues and of course it's written by Barrett. Syd delivers some eerie lyrics that reflect his current state of mind. A superb vocal performance with a catchy chorus that is then interrupted by a noisy Salvation Army Band and weird sounds. Syd quietly returns on acoustic guitar giving a disturbingly, yet beautiful goodbye to his band and the album closes.
