Chicago outfit Janus deliver another batch of 10 accessible alt-metal tracks on their 4th LP 'Nox Aeris'. Apart from polishing up the production & adding a little more electronics, the quartet don't do a great deal different than on slightly superior predecessor 'Red Right Return'. However, they once more provide a consistent album which is sure to please fans of 10 Years, Deftones, Breaking Benjamin & even Tool. The sound may be a little dated & the music is far from ground-breaking, but Janus continue to be an under-rated & accomplished act that know their target audience well. Recommended Tracks: Numb, Always Rains, In Flames & Lifeless.

Theres some well written songs on offer here. But the problem I have with this album is the amount of artificial techno sounds infused into the mix. And vocals have some sort of awfull vocaliser attached which give off this wavering metalic sound which I dont think is necessary. Also it has a bit of that lame over emotion that is present in so much American music. But as I said the songs are very well written with catchy hooks and sparks of greatness here and there. Im afraid to visit the other albums because I have a feeling this might be a bit of a fluke. We will see.

Me personally, nothing really jumped out and grabbed me, all the songs are solid, and the melodies are good. My favorite song of the CD was Waive.

I wish. they said they started working on something new back in like 2014, but then they went totally silent.
band's drummer confirmed they split up on Twitter back in May of this year.

Yep, Twitter indicates they are done.

Damn that sucks. They were one of the few modern rock bands that actually stood out. Too bad they were so underrated.

Too bad, they were very good. I think the genre as a whole just isn't popular anymore and is fading fast. Hard to make dat money.

holy shit, I had no idea they were coming back. although technically it's not really the band anymore, it's more of a David Scotney solo project under the Janus name. still sounds good though

Yeah, well, I really like this album, even though I agree that the "vocals have some sort of awfull vocaliser attached which give off this wavering metalic sound which I dont think is necessary." Very well put. Hopefully they won't use that in the future.

Sweet, I will check it later. I always liked their Chevelle-esque sound

might be worth noting that it's now essentially a solo project for the vocalist that uses music as a vehicle for social activism and not the full band as we knew it
