I see what you mean. Yeah, their guitar-work has always been very percussive. Back then, to me, it seemed like the focus was on creating a groove type feel though. Starting with Alpha, it sounds like it's been heavily influenced by some of the modern metalcore stuff more than anything else. It's a lot faster and more technical.

yeah Alpha was definitely an attempt to get with the metalcore movement, I just liked it because it was the heaviest thing they'd done in years and a lot of the songs were very solid.
Beg to Differ is an example of them doing a metalcore sound but really pulling it off. Alpha also brought back the catchiness I thought was missing from a decent portion of Seasons and Next.

Do you remember Flaw? They sounded a bit like Sevendust.

Flaw was pretty cool. I only ever had whichever album Payback was on though. They're still around, right?
@Inveigh: Cool, yeah. Definitely agreed on it being one of the heaviest things they've ever done. It was a big change from the two previous albums for sure. I like it more than this. I'm just not too into that whole sound.

I heard that Sevendust is releasing one more album and then calling it quits. They've been around forever and have made great music on a consistent basis, which is why they are still my favorite band this day.

That's not completely true. They definitely said that they all need a break to be with families etc. Also, that they'll probably no longer be touring or recording nonstop like they've been doing since the debut album. But the next album is still planned for next year. A bunch of stuff is coming out soon though.
Clint and Morgan just finished recording a project together, Call Me No One. I think Clint described it as heavy, melodic progressive rock and it's supposed to be out in May.
John, Vinny and Scott Phillips from Creed/Alter Bridge are also recording an album for release some time this this year.

how is this rated as one of the worst Sevendust records, this is easily one of my favorites by them. Pieces is one of their best songs, and the album is very consistent

first two records are far and away their best, followed by Animosity
I think you could make a case for Alpha, Seasons or this as their next best record after those three and if you disagree we can't be friends

this is one of their best albums for me.

sounds like they kinda rushed this album, nothing stands out at all.

Didn't care for this record as much as most if not all of their others, but "Ugly" was responsible for introducing me to the band so I have this to thank for that. Seasons and Animosity would end up being my first albums of theirs, though.
