to all of you who compare these guys to autopsy, this was their fb status the other day:
Open letter to all music "critics" : quit comparing EVERYTHING to Autopsy. Our slow parts do not sound like Autopsy. Nothing about our band sounds like Autopsy. Why is that band the default comparison for every death metal review? Do you people even listen to the music?
And besides our logo, which is an obvious homage, and the fact that our vocals are low, we do not have a whole lot in common with Incantation.
Basically, listen to the music, feel it, try to understand it. Every fucking review we read says the same thing: we're slow, heavy, and the songs all sound the same. That can be interpreted good or bad, and I do not really care who does or does not like our music... but reviews that miss the point, especially good reviews, are irritating as fuck.

I feel he'd give you props. You didn't describe this album as a whatever effort but you gave credit to purpose and direction.
But naturally most people aren't going to do the research needed to give them a justifiable review, although a good review should make such steps. I enjoyed your review because you broke that mold.

This is one of my favorite releases of '11. I just delved into the album 3 times since yesterday and am immensly happy to have this album in my possession.
You can really feel the emotion behind every riff, tremolo, and drum hit. Ghoat has really accomplished an album like no other, just as he set out to do. His composition's here are, imo, literally perfect. The only thing keeping this from a 5 for me, is me wishing it was a little more crusty. And also me wishing he would explore his emotions a little more, since he has already risin above many other artist in exploration.

Glad you ended up enjoying this so much, I agree, it's one of the better releases from last year. It is very emotive also, even if not in the traditional sense.

yeah but if that's not the sound you're going for at all, i understand why it's frustrating
|

i don't necessarily agree with him, but i definitely understand where he's coming from also. was just pointing it out

i think deep down every artist wants to sound like themselves, so being compared to other bands (no matter how great they are) can be pretty frustrating especially when you don't think your group is headed in that direction at all
