I knew it. I knew as soon as I saw this review that Deviant would just have to come along and explain to the unfortunate Philistine why they know nothing about dubstep. Clearly, she is the only one on Sputnik qualified to talk about electronica. All others must remain silent, for only she, in her wise omnipotence, understands its subtleties. Thank God she opines via the internet so that us mere mortals can understand obscure genre distinctions, which obviously preclude overall sounds and textures.

But it's not only Deviant espousing this arrogant mentality. I see people here everyday spouting off about what is and isn't "real" metal, or "real" jazz, or "real" EDM. Newsflash: you can't skew what a genre is and isn't to fit your subjective preferences. At the end of the day, genres boil down to objective criteria, so you can't say that Avenged Sevenfold isn't metal, or that Kenny G isn't jazz, or that I am not post-dubstep, just because such classifications are an affront to your moral code.

For losers like Deviant, it's all about a feeling of exclusivity. Feeling like you, and perhaps a handful of others, are privy to the truth. This is a seriously unimpressive mentality that one should have grown out of if they are above the age of 15. Very few professional musicians behave in such a manner, and the ones that do are uniformly and routinely crucified. Only self-important non-musicians on the internet seem to operate under such pretenses.

His newest EP, Love What Happened Here, finds him once again stretching across a sea of more clicks, clacks and swirls of beats via the likes of Burial, Mount Kimbie and Joy Orbison

No, it isn't. There isn't even an argument to be discerned from your inarticulate screeds. It's all about you bashing other users for not conforming to your elusive and narrow perceptions of what dubstep is. Here, this user gave a well-written summary of the EP, and you just had to jump in and start an argument over two words, as if they were some kind of travesty. This is about ego, not a genuine concern for music criticism or knowledge. Don't pretend otherwise.

Jesus James I knew you were a sensitive soul, but if you really think that's bashing....

This is about ego, not a genuine concern for music criticism or knowledge. Don't pretend otherwise.

Because I'm defending my genre here? No, this is about working out why experimentation shouldn't be rewarded as such, but by all means prove me wrong james blake

YOUR genre? Are you insinuating that you are the originator of dubstep, or just that dubstep is your niche on Sputnikmusic? I'll assume the latter, which only proves my point about you employing an elitist mentality.

"experimentation shouldn't be rewarded as such"

Do you even realize what you're saying here? You're basically like the Wynton Marsalis of dubstep, opposed to change at all costs and viewing progress as heresy. Some "deviant" you are.

siding with James on this one. especially since he managed to use my hatred of Wynton Marsalis' rigid traditionalism.
