Daughtry is just the epitome of wasted talent imo. If he wrote more songs in the vein of There and Back Again from the debut he would be great, but all he wants to do is write top 40 ballads.

Yeah totally agree, he's such a sellout.

First Pizz, please be aware that I love you to bits, and that I hope we stay that way forever. Unfortunately, I am of the opinion that this review is really subpar, and is filled to the brim with assertions and "eh what?" statements that are far and away from your usual standard of writing.

For example:

i.) Daughtry’s music has always disappointed.

Be very careful when making blanket statements like this one. One can't hope to write something like this and hope to get away with not backing it up.

Other examples: The album has absolutely no filler. (also, the follow up line: In case you didn’t hear that correctly, allow me to repeat that statement. There are no filler songs in Break the Spell made me wince. Hard.)

ii.) To no one’s surprise, however, Daughtry was incredibly boring soft rock, the opposite of what we wanted.

Have you even listened to that album? It's no Protest The Hero, but to call it "soft rock" is a stretch. (but yes, it could be quite boring at times)

iii.) I know it's awkward when the singer and the band go by the same name, but you really could have given a hack at differentiating them a bit more. Half the time I was confused as to the direction of your train of thought; here: Break the Spell is easily the band's best album. He’s still creating mainstream rock that’s easy on the ears, but this time it actually rocks.

First you say "the band", and then half a second later you're going about Daughtry himself. The flow of argumentation simply doesn't jive, which is bad.

iv.) The rest of the review ends up repeating the same errors over and over again. The last two paragraphs are patently quite bad. This line: Since Break the Spell consists of less restrained songs, he belts it out louder, higher, and more powerful than ever before is silly (if you aren't restrained, it necessarily means you're singing louder, higher, and more powerfully...no?). I'm sorry Pizz, but you can do much, much, much better than this.

Sorry again Pizz, but reading this, it doesn't even seem like you already have 165 reviews under your
belt =(

@ Irving:

i.) - For me, his music has always disappointed so I have no problem with saying that.

- yeah that line was a bit sketchy (if you're nitpicking)

ii.) - Of course I've listened to the album. And yes, it's boring, and it's rock, and it's quite the opposite of hard rock. However, seeing as it bugs you so much I'll get rid of the word "soft" lol. :P

iii.) - you're right and I noticed that, so I guess I'll try to fix that.

iv.) Right, I'll try to fix all of that lol.

Thanks Ving.

Um, except for this, "Since Break the Spell consists of less restrained songs, he belts it out .", there don't appear to be any changes. Oh well =/

i like daughtry but seriously this cd is his worst effort, i disagree that his first 2 were boring, they actually had me interested, this cd retreads stuff that was done better on his first 2 cds. track 2 was ok, but god did i get bored with the rest of this.

Somewhere between a 3 and 3.5 for me. Pretty much every song on here is radio friendly rock (makes me wonder if this is "rock" or "pop"). But isnt this what an American Idol finalist is supposed to do?

Nothing new or ground breaking here.

This is seriously some of the best music i have ever heard... I don't believe that there is one bad Daughtry song... which is why I rated it a classic. Please stop hating on Daughtry.. who has been one of the few AI winners to separate form the pack.
