"Then why did she fall of the iTunes charts like a bag of rocks? Why did her singles flop like a pancake? Why was she dropped from her record label?"

@ Valerius: you're saying pop music must be successful to be worthwhile but also state that bands you haven't even heard of are better than this. somewhat ironic.

your comment about talented musicians being replaced by drum machines etc. have you ever listened to Michael Jackson? Madonna? oh yeah, you have, you made that clear. please tell me when a pop artist hasn't used a drum machine or synthesizer. you can have an opinion about this album but you've taken it way too fucking far trying to prove a point that is based on objectivity which, in turn, means your point can never be proven. I love this album and I really don't care if you don't. just because you've heard a shit ton of pop doesn't mean your opinion is above anyone else's or makes you better for disliking it. you could have simply said "I hate this" and saved everyone else the headache of trying to explain why you do a few times every comment. we get it.

I was bored and randomly decided to check this out. This is actually quite damn good. Review is great as well. This is much better than most of the shit I see on the pop charts these days.

The production on this is pretty fantastic. I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying this, and I generally don't enjoy straight-ahead radio-friendly "pop" music like this. Kind of reminds me of Janelle Monae's LP though, with much less R&B influence obviously, in that it seems like she just floats from one genre to another song by song whilst never really leaving the same general tone or "feeling" of the music. This is somewhere in the 3.5-4 range for me.

judged on the merits against other pop albums it deserves a 4, over all I would give it a high 3, there are a few weaker tracks on the album... yo-yo in particular that stops it from being great. It did surprise me in terms of overall quality, smart song writing and lyrics.

I give this a 3. I think it edges on being generic, but I found some highlights that will have me returning to this.

Born This Way is my contender for pop album of the year.

please dont give lady gag the pop album of the year. its mediocre to bad. i would take Dev's pop/rap/party album over Born This Way

right now the Kimbra album is climbing up the ranks, plus the new Florence + the Machine already is among the best

Florence + the Machine is best pop I've heard this year, but I haven't been keeping up with much of it. It's better than this, Gaga, and Britney Spears.

I've been over this with a whole bunch of people, nobody is going to change my mind. I feel it is a strong progression from her last two otherwise superb releases, criminally underrated and nitpicked apart for all the wrong reasons.

I don't want to open this can of worms again, however.

weird @ taomwaits4noman. I thought "Yo-Yo" was up there with "Gladiator" and "Take A Bite" for the sheer emotional quality of the chorus. You can almost feel her pain with the "Yo-yo, yo-yo, yo-yo" delivery. brings tears to my eyes occasionally. @Haz "Born This Way" may have been progressive but it does NO justice to "The Fame Monster". There are good songs on "BTW" but there are too many songs that just seem unnecessary, IMO. I think this whole album is good (save for the cover song) and is built upon the artists' feelings versus trying to be something bigger than what it is which is most admirable.

might I add that "BTW" feels so empty compared to Lady Gaga's other material. She can sing, yes, but I don't feel like she means most of what she's saying for most of the album, like she's reaching for ideas instead of executing them correctly. She can do much better than that album. At least I fucking hope so.

I disagree on all those points regarding Born This Way.

I actually liked this album more than what I was expecting, being "Gladiator" and "Lucky Day" my favorite ones, even though most of the songs are pretty good.

I like this the more I listen to it. There is some creative things happening musically that keep
drawing me back to it, reminds of Lily Allen a bit.
