killa_bees mentioned that he wasn't a "lyrics guy". Well, I'm a lyrics girl. I especially loved the lyrics for 'Starchild' - like poetry, but not in the language of poetry - so even though I'm not too fond of metal, I have a few of the songs.This Message Edited On 03.10.07

Yeah, MAenpaa writes some of the best lyrics ever. Starchild is spine-tingling, as some of the lyrics in battle against time. All of the songs have amazing lyrics. Check ouyt my review of this album, i think i commented on the lyrics quite a bit.
Again, this album is one of my favorites ever. Only bands that can match up with wintersun are opeth and children of bodom.

Mrh, well, it makes me sad. :O Such harsh and, well, wintry beauty in the lyrics that I am transported beyond mere words, yet when I listen to the songs, this sublimeness is transmuted to guttural screams and snarls. One could say that he was a great blessing for metal fans and a great loss for everyone else. (Can you imagine attempting to persuade somebody to give up writing their preferred genre?)

Well.....I love metal and amazing lyrics.....so it's a win for me :thumb:
It's a shame you don't though  there's honestly not many bands that write lyrics this good that aren't metal....it's kinda strange.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers have some great lyrics, but they're the opposite of these lyrics really, but they're still really poetic. (Im talking about some of their older stuff)

The only thing that confuses me, is why do people consider this power metal? Power metal has really high pitched vocals that hurt my ears and i refuse to listen to it. Although, some power metal bands have good guitar riffs.
But on the other hand, three of my favorite bands Skyfire, Wintersun, and Children Of Bodom have all been called power metal by someone.
Doesn't anyone besides myself consider these bands as melodic death metal?

Well, I will agree with you that CoB and these guys are very much melodic death metal. Alexi Laiho has said that he doesnt care what anyone labels their music, as long as they say it is NOT power metal. These guys and Bodom are sometimes considered power metal because of the music, not the vocals.

Many consider them power metal with harsh vocals actually. It's mainly cause of the instrumentation. Norther is labeled like this also.
Plus, they don't have melo-death as a genre, so i think power metal fits best
