May be a little random, but aren't you playing the guitar (remember discussing some Deftones in the news)? Cause maybe you could tell what tuning (hahaha tuning again) is used on Obsidian?

Hahahaha I do remember discussing that with you (and I was actually wrong in arguing with you the Deftones album tunings after seeing some of their tab books). I honestly couldn't tell you since I haven't tried to play any of their stuff (damn 8 string guitars). I think its Drop C. This Message Edited On 03.02.08

Drop C on an eight string?

If any when dropped, shouldn't it be more like Drop E, if you know what I mean...

Your probably right!

My main focus of instruments tbqh is drumming. I know a bit of guitar (self taught that is).

I've been playing drums for eight years so I guess it's my main instrument. Also I know a bit of guitar and bass but that's due to my focus on the guitars (and tunings hahaha) when listening music nowadays. Selft taught too HA!

Wow, Ive been playing drums for about 10 years and guitar about 7 years.

There are a couple of fills on this album that I learned on drums. I can't remember the names of the songs though, I just know the parts hahahaha. I can get back to you on that.

I'm interested which 'fills' that could be since I don't remember any that stood out all that much me. Oh wait, there are some small wicked ones on Spasm, but they're rather details. My observation on Haake's playing here is that he's focusing more on groove than he's previously done. That being said, the beat in Straws Pulled at Random around the solo section and on is fucking tight! One of my favorite Haake beats.

Haake is all about the groove on this album.

I guess its just parts of this album that I enjoy playing once in a while. Spasm has some cool parts (tiny little fills here and there) that I enjoy playing on drums. The part that runs from 2:34 on is so much fun and really tricky on the snare drum. There is another fill somewhere on this album that is really tight and I can't find it. I will just listen to the album all the way through and find it.

I love this album, Perpetual black second is probably the most addictive song. Can't help but move your head constantly during that song.

I've got the feeling most people talk about Nothing as if it were the ugly sister in the family. You have to love her, but...it's ugly.

People suggest hearing previous albums before getting this, and they mighy be correct, but for different reasons. If you buy this first, you might find previous works less...interesting. Chaosphere is great, but now, THAT is repetitive. DEI, is more varied, but less distinctive. With Nothing they find a sound of their own, and no one sounds like them. I like the fact that this album is like nothing else on their catalogue, and that they were even able to evolve from here to record the also amazing Catch-33.

In a way this album is quite legendary. In the sense that since its release no other band has been below the guitar tuning used on this, at least not as tasteful as on this. The D#2 on Stengah and Obsidian, and Bb2 on Spasm are crushing.
