The advertising surrounding this album is insane (Relapse Records has full page adds). It's not the hype I care about, it's bands like this and their impeccably over-processed studio wizardry that I just can't stand and neither should anybody who knows metal as well as us. They simply use too much studio magic to make this work, I'm sure they suck hard live.

i agree that the album is way overproduced, but i still find it to be a fun listen. the production doesnt completely ruin it for me.

Check out Blotted Science's The Machinations Of Dementia and you will see that you can have great production on a tech-metal album without it sounding like it was shat out by a robot.

I did go see these guys live last year and they were good, but your right they didn't sound the same on record. What you describe as overproduced just sounds clear and distinguishable to me. Personally I believe The poster child of overproduction is Arch Enemy's Doomsday Machine. This isn't anywhere near as bad. I have a set of audiophile grade headphones, and they really highlight poor and good recordings(Gojira and Tool sound amazing on them). Chaos of Forms doesn't sound amazing nor bad production wise, so I don't have any problem with it. All I can say is, at least it doesn't sound like most Black Metal.

i enjoy the shitty production on black metal records. being underproduced is better than being overproduced.

From a production perspective(I am studying to become one) the black metal genre in general is

atrocious. Fact: Many producers neglect to use any recording techniques and use poor quality recording

materials. The way the genre initially sounded was because of how it is underground and poor the bands

were. Now ignorance keeps many fans demanding low-fi production(simply ridiculous). There are other

ways to capture the atmosphere, grit, ect of black metal. You just have to pay for it =D

I'm glad that you recognize it is a whole different ballgame. Black Metal fans can tout Minor League

Boyball production all you want, but the rest of us will stick to the major leagues.

I'm interested to hear what in particular you like about black metal production. I understand that it

is my opinion, but reality is many black metal albums are not recorded nor mastered well. Metal/Rock

in general suffer from production faults(especially the loudness war).

What is black metal without black metal production?

What does black metal have anything to do with this album at all? Like Wiz said, it's a completely different subject.

@andcas I like it better, but many prefer EiF to this. You can't go wrong with this album if you liked

the last. This album essentially is an extension of their previous sound. Not much has changed, except

Chaos of Forms is a little more grove orientated and varied/interesting because of stylistic choices.

If I could sum it up in one word it would be, refinement.

Why, I at least back myself up with reason. You know me, I'm always the minority or last man on the boat hahahaha.

Lol anyone who honestly thinks that this is better than electrocution should not be allowed to listen to metal. These guys are more processed and studio backed than the backstreet boys, they're the boy band of tech death

I highly doubt the band is taking themselves seriously, so there's no reason why anyone else should. they're just having fun.
