It's good and all, but the bits get pretty stale. He's a great rapper, but the album lacks any trace of innovation. It feels kind of dated (at least for me).

point me in the direction of the last extremely innovative hiphop record you've come across greg.

I like M.I.A. a lot. I think her music is much more adventurous/less safe than this. A cutting-edge stuff, I must say. That's perhaps why her last album was so polarizing. Shabazz Palaces - Black Up sounds interesting too from what I've heard.

this is pretty adventurous hip hop especially if you consider that Def Jam is poising him for mainstream success.
Black Up is a great record and Shabazz are very interesting but tbh I go to that record and this album for different things. Same with Mya.

I got you Strider
also gotta agree with Yeti on that (obviously, as I love this album). I mean, maybe this isn't drastically different than some of Outkast's mid-era stuff, but at the same time what hip hop that's come out in the last couple of years sounds like this?
Shabazz is definitely pushing it, but it's pretty much a different genre than this (for instance, we would never compare Metallica with Ulcerate, even though they're both metal).
