Gentle Giant is probably my 3rd favorite prog band behind Rush and Pink Floyd

Gentle Giant might be my #1 prog band. King Crimson and Rush are super close too

the sum is better than the parts here, nothing completely grabs me, I have this rated lowest of everything up to this. kinda how I feel about Going for the One

Free Hand is really great too, though. Less consistent, but higher highs imo

^Your comments didn't show up in ''my discussions'' even if I've commented to this thread. Must be a bog.

The first 5 tracks of Free Hand are such a good ride. I had The Power and the Glory at a 4 for a long time. Now, it contains two tracks that prevent me to give a 5; ''No God's a Man'' and ''The Face''. I don't skip them anymore though.

Free Hand is great, but by that point, some of the cracks were starting to show. You could already hear the band going in that more simplistic direction that would eventually culminate in the last few records (granted, I do actually enjoy Civilian)

yeah i dig the emphasis on melody on free hand, i feel like its their most balanced. after that shit kinda hits the fan

The weakest of their best works, for me.

Really nice record.

Nah their debut is their weakest imo. It only got better from there.
