Rating something well is a very hard task... people like myself who approach music very emotionally will probably never master that art. But truth be told, I also disagree with people who give Blackwater Park a 5. While I enjoy this album very much, it's 4,5 tops for me. If this is a 5 for so many people, then I dunno what really mindblowing music is.

This is a good review. This album is definitely better than DMD and the debut. Holographic Universe is still their masterpiece in my opinion, but this is right up there with Pitch Black Progress. When i was listening to the Draconian Arrival last night I actually got goosebumps and that barely ever happens to me! I don't care what any of you complainers say, this album is fucking awesome and both vocalists have proved their worth in this band!

Yeah I'm actually really enjoying this album. The production value is unbeatable, and as usual, Per is a fucking monster. The tracks are very complex and definitely a step in a different direction. I still love how this band blends together metal genres and makes a track that is simply enjoyable, without constraint to a specific genre. Lars actually does a pretty damn good job for once, and Roberth is a good growler.
But even still, No matter how much I listen to it and enjoy it, I'm forever plagued by the consistent thought of "Man this song is good... But god, I wonder what this album would have been like with Christian?".
*sigh* bitter sweet.

Christian is a wondrous singer. But he's not perfect, Solution. 45 actually exposed his flaws.

I saw some people complaining about all songs sounding the same. Lol, thats the first SS album where I actually understood there were more than 3-4 songs at first listen. If all of u have a very bad memory, thats not the bands fault^^. How can The Anomaly be the same with The Illusionist?!

It's actually very similar.

I really hate most of sputnikmusic's reviews. Here it's either you like it or you don't, but nothing never comes in between. Check out the bashing on Trivium and Dragonforce reviews for example.
I do agree with the current reviwer though - GJ!
DEF A 4,5!!!
On a sidenote - waiting for a professional review on Allmusic.com.

Apart from the intro and the common structure, I didnt find any other great similarities...

The Anomaly is a brilliant opener. It does feel like The Illusionist a whole lot, though. As I wrote in the review, it's like a blend of The Illusionist with Chaosweaver. Sounds a lot like The Iconoclast too, but less cheesy.
BTW after like ten or fifteen more listens to this album as a whole I'm still not inclined to lower the rating (it may probably go down someday, but no lower than 4), but I've got some new perceptions. Particularly that the lead section from Seers of the Eschaton is one of the best solo sections by them, right with Veil of Illusions and Ghost Prototype 1. That buildup, that second riff... DAMNIT.

"I've stopped fighting faggots on this site hahahaha."
Standard Sputnik elitism of the Converge loving hipsters-of-metal crowd. All ass, no class.

Didn't realize this was already out.
I'd love to enjoy this.

BTW what's the deal with the pos's? Looks like some of my pos's have been canceled while some of the other review's negs have been removed. Featured review favoritism much?

I think your review is really good, and I can tell you really dig this band given your thoughtful and emotional responses
to questions/criticisms. When these guys are great they are awesome, but when they are not hitting on all cylinders
they sound pretty god awful. OK, so this is all to say that I really need some no shit help on this one. I only own
Holographic Universe, and think it is a solid 3.5. I could barely give Dark Matter Dimensions 5 spins before falling
asleep in disappointment and selling it back to the store for a few bucks. I have not heard Pitch Black...Given the above
information, am I going to regret picking up this album?

The staff of Sputnik collectively hate Scar Symmetry. So there is no surprise that they would corrupt the PoS system like that. They aren't professional.

I still haven't checked it out, but sounding similar isnt such a bad thing is it? They're old stuff is good (DMD excluded), and if its similar then why isnt this good... Look at a band like Dark tranquility...

This is a far better review. I'm not saying that because I really enjoy this album. I'm saying it because it does what a review is supposed to do, talk about the fundamentals of the album as a whole, not complain that you dislike the record.

I'm still awed by Scar Symmetry, even though many people seem to think they've deteriorated. On Dark Matter Dimensions they may have, but this album is a different fucking story.

That's exactly why you're saying it. If you would've hated this album then you probably would've agreed with what the other review had to say. The threads for this album are getting out of control.
