His best to me is Full Force Galesburg. I still have some others to listen to before I make a final decision, I suppose. But FFG smokes this.
Also I kind of feel like a 4.5 review deserves a little bit more explanation. I can see a mini-review for a 3/3.5/4 because so many albums with these "average-good" ratings already have a lot of commonalities. Obviously it's up to the writer to decide what's necessary, but there wasn't any convincing of 4.5 in this review. It was great commentary though, I just want to know more about this album. This review also makes it difficult for a new listener who has not heard TMG before to get a feel for what Darnielle does in a non-conceptual way.
There was no use of the word 'guitar' in the review!

Live was a bit underwhelming, but still better than 90% of touring bands. I guess I just expected a little more, something transformative. Still great.

I'm just hoping he will continue his works. The 2000' lacks good folk music in general.
