This album is way better than Silver Side Up, where SSU had a 3 great songs like Never Again, How You Remind Me and Too Bad. (The others are ok I guess).

The Long Road takes the same formula, but does it much better imo, thats what Chad was probably looking for. More commercial you say ? Maybe, but more, better songs.
