Been slowly getting through Nas' discog chronologically (slowly as in one album every three months or so), and I think this is his best album so far since Illmatic. But be honest, do they get worse after this? I feel like they are going to get worse.

I still stick by this being Nas's 2nd best album.

It's definitely in the top 4 and probably is number 2.

Illmatic is tier 1, and then It is Written, Stillmatic, and God's Son are tier 2. I feel that any ranking of those latter three is fine as long as they are 2, 3 and 4.

This is a great album yeah.
Tier 1: It Was Written
Tier 2: This, Stillmatic,
Tier 3: Illmatic, I Am

I love Nas so it's really hard ranking his albums but those are all 4.5's at minimum though I would say he has 5 or 6 albums at least a 4.5 to me

I Am is very underrated imo

I don't understand how it could have been though I Am is a fucking banger. Undying Love is an insane ending to the album. I should 5 it.

Nastradamus is probably in like the top 5 all-time most infamous records ever put out by a respected artist in or close to his prime
I ain't even heard the thing but man the level of hate I've seen it get is probably even more than like, Encore by Eminem or what have you
This record, however, is fuckin' great

the ones right after Illmatic I've never really given the chance because they all seem to me to be kind of trying to stay in that "world" of Illmatic without really claiming their own identity, but this could just be a sub-concious fallacy of mine based on the similar album cover formats of 'em
as it is I'd probably rank 'em Illmatic > Stillmatic > This
|
| |
dude It Was Written is the shit
it branches away from the Illmatic sound quite a bit i think. it has the quintessential mid 90's mainstream east coast aesthetic while Illmatic had the underground sound

Yeah I mean truth be told these are largely opinions/biases I developed as a teen & just haven't quite shaken them yet - I still think of those albums as "the one with grown-up Nas" and "the one with the sphinx" but Imma definitely give a listen to both sometime soon. And fuck it, Nastradamus as well cos why the fuck not
