i'm talking about the HEIGHTS, just used the KC song because we're talking prog-rock in general here - i know they sound quite different from each other.

there's really nothing left for me to get. i've had the album for a good number of years, spent a reasonable amount of time on it, and i just don't get a kick out of it like i do with king crimson.

argh stop comparing it to king crimson. if you rate everything on how popular it became in relation to KC, you'll miss out on a lot of stuff. but fair enough if you've spent a long time on this. but a 2? that means poor and bad which this is not.

lol what? the popularity wasn't of my concern, i just think king crimson is an overall better band, and reaches higher MUSICAL heights. prog is one of the least rewarding genres to me... usually hear nothing more than weakened jazz in a weakened rock context, which is nearly always less impressive than the jazz that influenced it. stuff that breaks that mold (very few do it) is the best prog in my eyes.

the point is that it's poor to me, so it'll get a poor rating. i'm not going to give something that i don't dig a superb rating, just because it's universally lauded.

but you are still comparing it to KC...

and you have to admit, the instrumental sections are pretty awesome, the lyrics are good, and this is the best yes album

what shindip said. plus, lolwut? weakened jazz plus weakened rock? that is ridiculous, you haven't heard enough prog and jazz, evidently.

of course i'm comparing it to king crimson, because we are talking about progressive rock and i feel that KC is the superior band.

the only merit the album has to me is that it's not quite as bad as fragile.

the kings of prog for me are king crimson, vox dei, czeslaw niemen, etc. even then, the sheer soulfulness of albert ayler blows them all out of the water.
