first time i listened to this, i rated it a 4/5, but after the 5-10 listens it's worn off rather quickly.

several songs are depending rhythmically - more or less - upon similar (and far more metal) variations of the main pseudo-jazz rhythm section tune from "Natural Science" by Rush.

Several riffs resemble that riff from "Natural Science".

In addition, few riffs and song structures are really memorable, plus the clean vocals are not anything special imho.

i would rate this a 3/5, if it wasn't for the superb drumming performance and the colossal sound production.

What doesn't wear off after 5-10 (that's a pretty broad range of numbers) listens in two days?

Prehistoricisms is WAAAAAAAAY better than this. I knew there were going to be clean vocals on this, but not pretty much the whole record, not to mention they aren't that great. It also seems like Lester's bass has taken more of a secondary approach than on Prehistoricisms. It's not bad, but the songs are not nearly as heavy or catchy, nor does it have the jarring time shifts that made Prehistoricisms so awesome.

To me, the vocals go very well with the music (Baroness can suck it though). I do wish they would've had more harsh vocals as they barely show up. The music is chill but that's not a bad thing, the change in sound is interesting and good, not to mention that they did an amazing job at it.

Yeah, I really don't understand why a few people said it was a low point. I almost ran off the road while I was listening to it, I think I had my eyes closed or something. Haha, it is very very chill. I love the tablas and the layered bass guitars. It had quite a chill vibe.

I wasn't saying that the clean vocals were bad, i just think they should have stuck to the harsh vocals. Sacha has a great voice for post metal and all i could hear in the vocals was a knock off of Baroness. i guess I'll just have to get used to the change.

o tempora o mores, ancient Romans used to say...

A whole lot of records that are way more cohesive than this one, too numerous to mention.

This one lacks in terms of dynamics more than obviously, as the not-so-great clean vocals aren't well balanced with the guttural ones.

Plus the calmer guitar parts seem too "relaxed" to my ears.

Minsk for example have extensive semi-electro-acoustic electric guitar tunes along with the harsher ones, but their arrangements and their execution are tight.

Leaving out 2-3 songs (Miasma is indeed awesome), this sounds to me like superbly (sound) produced generic 90's prog metal, that's been given a post-metal aura all over.

This is just my opinion, though...

who cares if it is awesomely produced generic prog metal on the basis of sound?? this is one sweet record, has creativity and prog written all over it.

agreed with the not so good[but good enough] clean vocals...but lacking in dynamics is not true

i wrote that it was superbly sound produced and that unfortunately the music sounds generic - to me - in the same way that mediocre 90's prog metal bands sounded generic.

No more no less.

As i said earlier, this is just my opinion.

Of course it is a good record, but imho it's not near a 4/5.

I wish there were more songs like Miasma, i truly wish that.

i will search for their previous releases.
