Their bassist definitely has pipes
|
| |
yeah he does. hmm
bloc, had you seen colors live? that's the only metal concert DVD i thought was really well done, the camera work is so much more superb after seeing all these other bands putting out set dvds
|
| |
I thought the Colors_Live cinematography was horrible. They focused on the wrong players the whole time and barely got any coverage of Blake
|
| |
I've seen it perhaps once or twice but I'm with you, Colors Live is definitely one of the best produced live dvd's I've seen a band put out.
There were much more close-ups on Colors than on this, which I am always a fan of. But both seem to have an issue with not giving a few of the band members enough on-screen time.
|
| |
Yeah, Blake didn't get enough screen-time and Tommy got too much... but as far as showing off their best asset (technicality), the fret-board shots are something severely lacking even in the footage I've seen of this. This DVD seems to capture the energy well enough but the music is forced to speak for itself because there aren't really any musicianship-highlighting shots... especially considering you have Matt Greiner in your band!
|
| |
There were definitely more group shots on this than on Colors, but I think that ties in with capturing the energy of the performance.
I actually think in terms of showing off technicality, Gallop beats both of these.

This whole thing felt like an extended music video..over-edited.

Jakes voice is terrible in this. Apart from that its all pretty tight.
|
| |
Well written review but it could just be me when I say it doesn't read like 2. To me it reads like a 2.5 or possibly even a 3. But still, this is disappointing, as I feel ABR are one of the few metalcore bands these days that do something different.

Album Rating: 2.5 | Sound Off
Yeah, when I wrote the review I paid attention to the rating descriptions and not just the numbers. So I didn't feel it was 'average,' and I felt 'poor' was a better descriptor.

This as the current 2010 set-list is damn good. Show tonight is going to be phenomenal!

Just bought this. Not too bad but doesn't really capture their live show very well. One of the best metal bands I have seen live.

Wow its sucks Jakes voice was so off on this. I have seen them about 5 times and every time they were
spot on and Jakes vocals were superb. Other than the vocals the dvd was pretty good. The sound was
pretty epic. At least they played all of Meridian.

Wow fail on my part, thank Satan for edit

The documentary side of is way to short to really even give people a feel for them... Before the live recording, they do mention he was sick...I've seen them a few times being from the area and he is usually on point and possibly one of the better live vocalist I've seen.

"7-minute track “The Seventh Trumpet,” an undoubtedly epic song that could probably stand to shave two minutes off its over-indulgent length"
7 minutes? Seriously? How could that be defined as epic OR "over-indulgent"? I have tons of songs over 10 or 15 mins, and most of them are actually awesome. However, I do agree that this song is probably exhausting with breakdown after breakdown (as are most of the other ABR songs I've heard). Used to like these guys when I was first getting into the metal world a couple of years ago. I've moved on though, and atm only a very few metalcore bands make the cut. Decent review overall

I hate the production on this album the guitars sound fake
