Critically acclaimed young Londoner James Blake keeps churning out the music with his 3rd release of 2010 being 17 minute EP 'Klavierwerke'. The title means "piano works" in German & is different from his previous releases due to the heavier use of the aforementioned instrument. The idea sounds really promising (as can be heard on the best cut 'I Only Know What I Know Now'), but the execution is jarring with the deep bass & distorted vocal samples clashing with the calmer, more haunting sounds Blake seems to be aiming for. Overall, this seems like a step back, but the thought process would come to fruition a little better on his debut LP.

It's funny in that I liked it a lot on 1st listen... Like high 3.5 liked it. But when I listened to it more & more, it didn't really grow on me as I had thought it would... I kept expecting the intricacies of his music to come out at me & they didn't, whether I searched for them or not. It's still probably his best release for mine, along with CMYK.
