Hi Subtle Dagger,

well, true, your post isn't a review, that' s my fault right there.

The problem with discussions about whether Oasis are ripping off or not or Liam is a good singer or a bad one to me is, that you just cannot talk about it, without pretending that your totally subjective view is really an objective observation about music as an artform. Yeah, right, it would be totally meaningless to talk about music in general, if no one could express his own subjective views. Taste is always completely subjective.

But with Oasis I think there is another problem: I don't know anyone, who has
a kind of neutral attitude towards this band. People who like em, LOVE em (me included). The other ones are kind of pissed off by those megalomanic Gallaghers and the craze caused by their "less-than-original sound" and, well, they aren't even the best musicians. And that's OK, but why do those people always have to tell me, that Oasis is crap? I don't care!

Sure, bad songs can be more easily ignored if the band responsible for it is unknown and unsuccessful. There are tons of bands out there, which you could criticize for the same reasons, who receive highest honors of the underground. Can the singer of The Offspring sing? No, he can't. Does anybody give a flying rat's *** about it? No, because it's punkrock. Not that you give the wrong impression: That's OK with me.

But I have a lot of friends who really will do anything just to not have to hear an Oasis-song. I cannot understand how one can go to that lengths, because of something as "irrelevant" as a Rock-band. If you don't like something, well go ahead, but telling people why the stuff they like is crap, is completely pointless.

By the way: What are your favorites? Unless it's some avantgarde FreeJazz, or ambient Whale-Sounds, I hope you know that it's a total rip-off and there are millions of better musicians out there;)

To end this on a friendlier note: It's only Rock'n'Roll, but I like it.

Nothing personal,
Funk_Dogg
I never gave a complete review, just a summary. But whatever.

He's not singing, he's whining. Through his nose. That is the problem.

That doesn't matter, I just mentioned it because it pisses me off. It has no releveance on the sound of the band, which in my opinion is incredibly lackluster and boring.

Once again, not a review, and I share my opinions of everything I've heard on this forum.
To be honest, I simply dislike them because their songs are uninteresting to me.

And The Offspring has a perfectly capable singer, that's a bad example. I know it's all a matter of opinion, and what that means is that I can speak my mind whenever the hell I want to, so don't give me this stupid "you hate the band so why do you care" garbage to try and shut me up.

Well, it seems they're interesting enough to you to keep you posting about them ...

And The Offspring has a perfectly capable singer, so that's a bad example.

So you're opinion is perfectly justified, whereas other people's opinion is a "bad example". You're really contradicting yourself. What about me saying: To me Dexter's annoying and I think Liams pretty capable? We could go on forever ... The difference between you and me is that I'm not posting in an Offspring-thread to keep telling the fans that they're stupid, because they're listening to this band. Get a Life!

... so don't give me this stupid "you hate the band so why do you care" garbage to try and shut me up.

Dear Subtle Dagger: No one wants to shut you up. What would we do without your witty remarks, your limitless wisdom and you charmful, delightful manners? If you keep telling me why a band I truly love is crap, I'm gonna answer to that. If you can't deal with it, go post about your faves instead of making lame-*** comments about a band you don't even seem to understand.

My friend is always ranted and raving about how amazing Oasis is, so I borrowed this CD off him. I haven't listened to it yet, (apart from the singles I've already heard). It better be as good as he makes it out to be.

You probably won't find it completely amazing. But it's pretty damn good.

Hi everybody,

first of all I would like to thank JillyBo for sharing her love with me! Great to hear that people think alike – even if they only exist as small letters on the screen. I feared that my replies to S.D. were a bit too harsh – so Iīm glad, that other people could connect to my thoughts, too.

Right now I think about posting a review of "Be here now" (don't know if I'm already allowed to open a new thread, so maybe another one of you would like to do me the favor?) which seems to be my favorite Oasis album. I know it's an unusual fave, because most of the people I know think it's their weakest effort next to "Shoulder" - in fact, I think the band don't like it, too.

I love every song on it, especially "D'you know what I mean", "My big mouth" (with the great line "into my big mouth, yeah you could fly a plane"), "Don't go away" (which always brings me close to tears) and even the underestimated "I hope, I think, I know" ("You'll never forget my name") and "Girl in a dirty shirt" (great performance of Liam!). And I don't have to say anything about "All around the world", do I?

What do y'all say? Any comments on "be here now"?

YeaH!
Cast No Shadow, yep great song, but you can tell they ran out of ideas for lyrics as they repeat the chorus alot and a big instrumental bit/
She's Electric, is divinely produced, with fantastically tongue in cheek lyrics, and an upbeat feel.
I need toi listen to it again to argue my point further.

I agree with you radiohead. It's their best CD anyways. Has some great acoustic songs on it - fairly easy to play and with great (and simple) chordal structures.

Wonderwall
Don't look back in Anger (My fave)
Champagne Supernova

simply put, i love this cd. this was one of the first tapes i ever owned before i even had a cd player. and the good thing about it, is you can own this one on tape and still be happy with it. theres no need to skip tracks because every song is amazing. (i have to disagree with the reviewer who said shes electric is the weakest song on the album. it has a little bit of a country feel in the intro, but its such a happy sounding song with lyrics that are a little twiztid. i like when bands can pull that off.) best song on the album, gotta be champagne supernova. i love that song and everytime i hear it i go into a little oasis trance. other strong ones are dont look back in anger (very john lennon-ish, without being a ripoff) and of course wonderwall. its obvious why that song was the big single. whats the story (morning glory?) gets a 5 out of 5 easy, with my supreme recommendation to anyone who enjoys good old fashioned rock music.

I finally got this album, I can say that it is easily one of the best british rock albums of the 90s.
