Steve Albini is, for lack of better phrasing, one of "those guys" in music. His sheer sense of sound creates an emotional experience that is not easily forgotten, the mark of a skilled artist, in my judgment. Think of Wire, the Velvet Underground, and Pere Ubu, all listening to Kraftwerk while wearing Public Image Ltd shirts.

Though it seems to be the general consensus that Songs About Fucking is the better album, I argue that Atomizer is better. I find it a bit more fascinating to listen to, a bit more abrasive, and it never stops trying to destroy everything in it's path. And besides, it has the balls to open the album with a song about child molestation from the perpetrators side of things, and that's just fucking crazy.

Also of note, to me the ultimate Big Black collection is as follows; The Hammer Party, Atomizer, Songs About Fucking, and Pigpile.
