Just listened, and I still think the more melodic side is tons better then the heavier side (and I'm a metalhead).

I initially didn't look at who had written this review...then halfway through I was like "this HAS to be Davey!" And sure enough...!

Ok Jake, you felt the need to write so much (longer than your reviews), so I should take the time to respond.



On the length aspect, you have a point... But the main reason for it was that the album grew on me quite a bit. I am not surprised that the ratings coming in at present are low, because on my initial listen it was a 2 for me as well. But the album grew (obviously the latter half especially) & I tried to convey that in the way I wrote the review. But yes, it did turn out a little longer than I wanted.



On reviewing a "metal" album, the first thing I will say is that everyone should give different genres of music a go... It's the best way you'll get better at writing. But more importantly, this is hardly inaccessible metal. Their previous album wasn't even metal (it was hard-rock) & I'd say the same thing about 5 of the 10 songs here also (tracks 3,4,5,7 & 10). Have you heard the album Jake? Either way, you don't have to concern yourself, I won't be reviewing DEP or Immolation any time soon.

Hehe. Nah, I have been writing for long enough to know that any piece of constructive criticism can be useful... Even if it's surrounded by some garbage.

I know this can be seen as a good and bad thing (due to adaptability issues), but I prefer to have this due to consistency, comparability, etc... That's the thing that made it so easy for Jake to aim his "observation" at me. Most around here know I would prefer the more melodic hard-rock side of the band & I'd hope they'd be sensible enough to take that into account. Hell, I even ended the review with 2 sets of Recommended Tracks.
