Until recently, I was unaware that many of these songs were composed/recorded simultaneously with the session that gave us LP3. Now I understand why this record feels inferior - it's leftovers.

Just from experience this kind of music caters to those who aren't truly music "lovers". Like AggravedYeti said, "sometimes all people need is a groove." I could be wrong. This is only how I see it.
So what about people (like me) who truly love music and enjoy this? I think shit that's on the radio is what actually caters to those who aren't truly music "lovers". Obviously they aren't music lovers because they don't dig any deeper than what's popular to find something truly unique and enjoyable to listen to. Musicians that are played on the radio try to cater to whatever will make them popular and get them rich. That is not what Ratatat is about, at all, in my opinion.
