Nevermore always sucked.

I've finally pinpointed what it is about this album that bugs me so much. It's the damn choruses. They are all awful. The songs start, and it's like "alright this is cool, sounds like Nevermore", and then this awful misplaced chorus comes in and ruins the entire thing. All interest in the songs is lost after the damn chorus. Even in songs like And the Maiden Spoke. The title track is the only one that really shows a bit what the bands used to be so good at.
This Godless Endeavour felt, even though there were choruses, like there weren't. It just fit seamlessly. Just listening to a song on that album solidifies the fact that this was totally uninspired.
This was the band that introduced me to good metal way, way back in the day. It sucks to see this be released.

So is this better or worse than BFMV's Fever? I saw you gave that a 3 as well Trey...

Is it just me, or does this whole album remind anyone else of Dane's solo release? Btw, Obsidian Conspiracy is, by far, the best song on this album.

So is this better or worse than BFMV's Fever? I saw you gave that a 3 as well Trey... Well, I listened to them back-to-back and I liked BFMV a little more. It's probably 50% quality and 50% initial expectations that make up my final opinion.

Well, it was a pretty good album, but very stripped down, just like this. I guess that's why this reminds me of it. Without Morals is a sweet song, probably not my favorite, though. As much as everyone hates the opening track, I actually really dig it. My favorite is still either And The Maiden Spoke or The Obsidian Conspiracy.

I wouldn't put TGE as the reference point. It's much closer to Dead Heart in style.

I never really liked Dead Heart all that much. The first three tracks and the closing song were the only good ones (and the cover song).

I think it's a lot closer to Dead Heart too, although I love that album dearly.

I couldn't agree more, except that my favorite tracks from that one are 1, 6, 7 and 8.
Every time i post this point of view in Hellenic rock/metal forums about Dead Heart in a Dead World, i'm being treated as an alien lol.
With this album - The Obsidian Conspiracy - Nevermore recorded two cover songs, one being the The Tea Party's Transmission from the self-titled album.
The results were mediocre, as the band stayed loyal to the original song orchestrations.
Nevermore really had outdone themselves in that The Sound of Silence cover.
