Haha, that's a really interesting remark because I kinda feel the same way. Like the first time i listened to this all the way through with headphones I felt compelled to listen to it again but I wasn't sure exactly what I really liked about it. Probably a sign that it's a grower but only time will tell I guess. I still hope their EP heads in a more melodic direction though. Toby has the ability to write some of the most captivating melodies and with Kayo Dot he doesn't really show that off too much, especially with these last few releases.

it's definately a grower and in the end you will find the music relaxing(there is not a single annyoing moment on the album), that's the main problem about this record, it's eventually too laid-back...
the highlights are sublime and there are no climaxes like on Choirs or Dowsing...
in the end, Coyote is Easy Listening on the highest possible musical level. :D
way more entertaining than Blue Lambency Downward.
BLD feels like an EP to this. even Coyote doesn't hit the 40 minutes mark.

agreed kubrik; actually i agree with like the last 3 posts. people are judging this album too fast. it's truly as good as everything else kd's done.

Listened to it once so far and really enjoyed it. Guess I'm one of the few who think that BLD and this are as good as anything else they've written (although I do miss the epic buildups on COTE and Dowsing)

I've listened to this 3 time tonight. I like it, I'm just not sure how much. Kind of hard to describe :/

BLD is godlike, listen to it with headphones alone at night

this reminds me of BLD, but it's definitely different from it. i still find it enjoyable to listen to. however i definitely disagree with the notion that this is just "average" music.

speaking of Epic Buildps missing:
Abyss Hinge 2, starting at 9:48 min until the end, understand what the Trumpets, the Drumming and the guitar in the background are all about, the finish will blow your mind...
some of the biggest epic moments by Kayo Dot....full of grace.

Coyote is awesome. How anyone could find it boring is beyond me. No, there are no metal guitars – does that make it boring? Hardly. The album is very nuanced, and reminds me at times of CotE. It's also more cohesive than BLD.

finally got around to listening to this and so far....it's agonizingly disappointing. HOWEVER, I do think you underrated it a tad. It's floating at a 3.0 for me right now.

I enjoyed this far more than I did with BLD. The vocal work has gone back to showing emotive patterns, and even though there is no guitar anymore, or there is an impervious need to just fill everything with sounds, this is far more enjoyable than BLD.

so I do like this

with such an amount of detail I find it somewhat strange that so many think it is boring. true, it's not a constantly genrehopping in-your-face album like "Bath" or something, but I'm still detecting stuff I've missed before with every listen.
anyway, not sure about the rating yet, probably a 4/5. Oh, and Whisper Ineffable is a masterpiece. I hope they're doing another European tour with this album sometime, at least with BLD the live experience was actually even much more immersing than just listening to the album.
