I'm loving this album right now, contemplating giving it a 5....
Metropolis, Learning to Live, Take the TIme, Under a Glass Moon, and Pull Me under are all in my top 20 DT songs now, and Surrounded is also very awesome.
I guess all the songs here kickass though.

And this album is so amazing,
And I think Another Day is about Petrucci's dad contracting cancer, isn't it?

Complete prog wankfest.........
the musicmanship is the only good yet bad thing (paradoxically) about this album.

This is one of those albums that just never gets old. I can listen to it all the way through as often as I like. Brilliantly composed music with a great singer surrounded by amazing musicians. That pretty much sums up this album.

Yeah, this and Awake definitely feature Labrie at his best.
I can't decide if I like this or Awake better, but I think it may have to be this. Metropolis and Learning to Live own hard.

I love complete wankfests. I find nothing wrong with them. Wankfests>song writing skills.
My above mathematical equation is the reason why bands like Between the Buried and Me, Opeth, and Dream Theater are so much better than Killswitch Engage. Crazy technicality, or boring sogn writing (screamed verses/sung choruses)? I choose crazy technicality.

musicianship, dude.

You said wankfests > songwriting, yet you then compare crazy technicality vs. boring song writing. Are you implying that all songwriting is boring? Opeth doesnt wank, and they write extremely well.

Opeth dont have complete wankfests.

Nah, I just wanted to say how bands like Dream Theater, BTBAM, and sometimes Opeth get lambasted for not having good song writing. And while that may be true, I just enjoy crazy solos and whatnot more than simple verse/chorus/bridge/chorus.
