you discovered this yesterday. let it grow on you. oh. and get over yourself. what do my 5's have to do with anything. we all have opinions.

idc about ratings but explosions in the sky is not better than this and you gave it a four. honestly none of those artists are better than this. i don't need albums to grow on me, i usually experience them the best on first listens.

im fine with you having your own opinion and i'll respect it. i was actually going to delete that comment because i thought it was pretty dick-ish.. but for me there's no way this is better than talk talk and i have no problem with saying your taste is pretty shitty if you think it is.

you should let this and talk talk grow on you.. or just listen to more music in general.

the fact that you've given at the drive in, tortoise, bon iver, cult of luna, and neurosis all ratings below three shows me that. you're the one who needs to give albums time to grow, because trust me - you're not seeing them the way most of us do.

no artist is objectively better than another. whenever i give an opinion on music it will always be with the assumption that the other person knows i'm not talking objectively. i dont know how you can say you dont need albums to grow. id like to borrow your ears if thats the case. a lot of albums have subtleties to them that seep in and attach themselves to you over time.

bon iver and neurosis below three? surely not. ill need to change that. my ratings jump around a lot the more i listen to an album. most albums dont grab me on first listen (except hospice and ( )), so i tend to rate reasonably low at first and then grow. if im not compelled to listen to the album too much more then the rating wont go up much. im sorry but relationship of command is pretty average imo, and war all the time is a MUCH better version of what at the drive-in were doing. again, just my opinion, and i know im in the minority.

this album doesn't need to grow on me though, already think it's spectacular and listen to it loads. i did have this on a 5 not long ago and i only knocked it down because i wanted to be a lot more strict with my ratings and only 5 those albums that mean a lot to me. all of my 5's are albums that i have some sentimental attachment to or make me feel something emotionally. this is going up to a 4.5 because its incredible and really atmospheric.

cool, i don't think the statement about artists objectively being better than another is correct though.

and the reason why the earth is not a poopy whatever's average rating is so high can be blamed on sputnik's dull and bland taste. it's the "essential" post rock album for people looking to get into the genre. very traceable and the climaxes jump right up where they need to. don't get me wrong, it is an emotional album and an excellent one at that. it just doesn't hold up too well over time and is a very shallow lp. set up to do exactly what is expected of the genre and nothing more.
