Altmer knows everything!

He's Altmer after all.

Pretty words and nice sentences do not make for a nice review if the review is way off from the very good album Gamma Ray made.

Dude... it's not a terrible album just because it's crappy and tends to plagarize. It's also mindblowingly average! It sounds like somehting you've heard before over and over again plus lacks creativity of any kind.

Great review, god-awful album.

...Ah, so these are the dudes who forced Queens of the Stone Age to change their band name! Cool.

Maybe you are too hard on Gamma Ray. In my opinion, it is their best release since No World Order.

Moreover, if you listen to the album with the new order of the songs, it even sounds better.

Anyway, I really liked the song with Kiske as well as Empathy. It is certainly an above average power metal album, and much better than I expected it to be. Give it more shots, but only when you are in the mood for well-played unoriginal power metal. Otherwise you will misjudge it, like you did.

Well yeah in the end it comes down to being based on opinion. I myself like a different signature in every band I listen to, to me this feels redone to the point it's no longer fun. But if you like mindless unoriginal riffs, this might be right down your alley.

If you want to call me out on something, at least read the review.

In this case it isn't particularly a good thing; although throttling melodically layered anthems make up the majority of To the Metal, the execution is so mechanical and formulaic that it lacks any of the edge it was probably intended to have. Simply put, what hurts the record isn't its unoriginality. No World Order wasn't particularly new, but it was excellent all the same. To the Metal merely sounds fast, heavy, and melodic (or whatever power metal fans want these days) because that is what power metal is supposed to sound like. Kai Hanson even sounds bored when he sings in "Rise" (the aforementioned "full throttle number").

They sound like they're recording "well-played unoriginal power metal" because that's what their fans want rather than because they want to. It's forced and boring.

I'm extremely disappointed with this album. I love the old Gamma Ray, and even Majestic. But the thing is, Kai lost his singing ability, he recycled too many riffs from other artists, and doesn't have anymore inspiration.

This album kicks ass. But that's my opinion. I don't think it's as good as Land of The Free II, their last album, though. I'm sure this will boggle some minds, but I think Land of Free II is the greatest album by anyone since The Number of the Beast. Like I said, my opinion.

Hi,

Just to say that I'm baffled by your review, everyone has an opinion but... 1.5?

You being harsh is an understatement... Being just fucking unfair isn't!

I listen to classic metal for over 2 decades, I should have gotten over it by now, but I don't and won't... because I keep my mind open and listen not only with my eardrums but with my heart as well, I pay much more attention to what a song makes me feel instead of "oh, this must be a Judas priest ripoff, shame on them!"

Guys like you preach about how recycled power metal has become but in truth the darker genres reached a rut way over a decade ago, It's the same shit shoved down our throats over and over again, Satan, pents, crosses, glorifies rape, anger, murder, suicide and all that crap... And now they add some Goth women's voices and progressive elements to it to make it hot and trendy but It's not! It's redone, sad, pathetic and mind-numbing! No better product than a mainstream Pop album!! I've grown over it when I was a teenager and kept the best and most positive elements close to my heart, which came precisely from those cheesy bands - like vintage Judas Priest, Manowar, Iron Maiden, old Helloween and the list goes on - back from a Time where people weren't so petty and judgemental as they've become today and wanted to be free, think for themselves and have some fun!

With this in mind and in my opinion as a die hard metal fan It is by far Gamma Ray's best release in years!!Truth: most things aren't new but It's uplifting and ass-kicking nevertheless!

And I advise people to give a it listen or two without any prejudice or preconceived notions from jaded people... unless you've all become a bunch of sheep and need a review to make up your mind!

Hi,

Just to say that I'm baffled by your metal knowledge. Everyone has an opinion, but...Okay, I can't think of a way to parody that post any further, Mr. Random Capitalization. If you think extreme metal is all recycled because of the subject matter, then you are sorely mistaken. I also like how you say this kind of music comes from a time when people wanted to be free and think from themselves, but you love bands that are clones of each other just because it's positive. There's nothing uplifting about music that bores you to tears.

To the Metal has good moments sure. Songs like Empathy, All You Need To Know, Time To Live or the title track, however you can't find nothing really new here.
