Stay Positive isn't their most consistent album, but constructive summer and the title track are my two favorite hold steady songs

Man 2012's gonna rule: new QOTSA, new Gaslight and hopefully new Hold Steady, can't wait.

The Horrible Crowes album was better than American Slang, so hopefully the new Gaslight will resemble the 59 Sound more.

Well, actually I hope they don't go back fully to the '59 sound, but rather mix it up with that Crowes influence. Would be very interesting and awesome I think.
Also, I really liked American Slang.

I like American Slang but every time I hear it Im disappointed because its a shell compared to Sink or Swim and 59 Sound, at least to me. Hell, even the Horrible Crowes album is more anthemic.

Nah, Sink or Swim is definitely the "worst" (relatively speaking). 59 Sound has the best lyrics for sure, but it gets a bit monotonous after a while, while American Slang has the best of both worlds, so to speak.

holy shit, i was looking on the hold steady wiki, the amount of references (culture, regional, other
songs/albums in their catalogue) on this album is mind blowing
|
| |
^ agreed and the references are usually really clever. stuck between stations got be into this band and the john berryman bit.. "thought he could fly, but he didn't so he died" blew my freakin mind.
seeing these guys live thursday. getting so hammered.
