Sputnik also gave the only 9 review....
Anyway, my apologies Adam, I shouldn't argue. The difference is negligible. Sorry.

I tried to say that before, but they wouldn't believe me. This is an instance where sputnik does not match up with the general consensus of critics.
But is it really? http://www.metacritic.com/music/artists/mono/hymntotheimmortalwind?q=mono
4.5 on a hundred point scale doesn't necessarily mean its a 90. Coke Machine is pretty much in agreement, Dusted only gives 'Favorable' and 'Unfavorable' reviews and they didn't have a bad thing to say about it, NME doesn't give ratings either, Prefix is in agreement generally, PopMatters... well just look at the name, and of course Pitchfork who never give post-rock above a 7.2.
structure is usually the basis for musical diversity.
But theres soooo much more to music than just structure. The melodies and harmony, the rhythm and texture, the timbre, etc etc. You can't just single out the structure of the songs and forget everything else that makes the music so wonderful.

Alright, and I can understand what you're saying there. I don't know, I guess it caught my attention because sputnik, on average, is usually a lot more closer than it was with this album. It's whatever though, I'm glad so many here like it.

Yeah, it's a little misleading how metacritic skews the ratings to match their system.

This is the best review I've read for this album so far. Even better than the staffs inflated reviews.....

Yes but in terms of how different the music actually is, structure is probably the biggest component. Most of the melodies/rhythms/textures within genres are derived a lot from the structure. The reason post rock is so ambient sounding is because its so long and unstructured.
thanks Wizard :]

Not at all. Almost all pop songs follow the same ABAAB song structure, but all of the rest of those factors is what differentiates one song from the next, so saying that structure is the most important part, or structure determines melody and harmony is far from the truth. Sure many of Mono's songs on this album follow the same general structure, but that is where the similarities end.

what do you mean the albums they "cover?" all they do is tabulate review scores, they don't actually review them theirselves
