This isn't a 5. It's still good though. I agree with prophet for the most part, Except that I'd rate it about a 4.3 so far, But I need to let it sink in a bit more and we'll see.

I disagree with Prophet on the vocals; they are a very high point, however, the guitar playing is the most stand out thing for me. This, to me, would have likely reached my top of 09 if the lists didn't have to be submitted so early.

Yeah, This would be about 4th or so maybe for me. I haven't had the chance to listen to it much though. Band deserves any recognition they get.

Katsushika is god damn amazing.

^ I was just thinking that as I was listening to it. I love how that Albus guy justified his soundoff for this album by basically saying "Too many fanboys, I'm giving this a 1".
I can understand a 2.5 or something for this album, but seriously.. A 1?
|
| |
A 1 is far too low, I really can't look at it subjectively; this just rules. The guitar in that song is ethereal, I love it.

Yeah like I said originally, the vocals are the best part of the album buuut they get annoying to hear for an hour, at least to me. The same thing happens to me with Dredg too honestly, so it might just be me. I might do a full review tomorrow actually.

I would like them to get bit more rawer in some parts just to change it up. But hey, I can just mix it up with their first cd I guess.

I know Ross is going to do one with a 4 rating, so now that I'm laid off work, maybe I'll try to put out a review for a 4.5, and you could do a 3.5. I also think the vocals are best on Katsushika.

Yeah I figured if there's going to be a staff review there's no point of me doing one, I don't know though, I'm in the same boat as you though so I might just do one anyway.
|
| |
Might as well... maybe that Albus dude can write a 1/5 review, haha.

Weevil Bride is pretty amazing at 3:20 and onwards.

Agreed, and the vocals are intense on that one.

I think Downhill and the title track are my favorites, I like that first chorus where he says "shoegaze revolution" I don't think I've ever heard someone use shoegaze in as a lyric before.
|
| |
I definitely agree with Downhill, but the two best are that and Katsushika for me.

This guy always amazed me with the way he crafted his lyrics. There isn't anyone in the alt-rock scene that really makes them this good.
I was hoping for another song like Harlequin, I love that song.

After the title track is when the vocals start seriously pissing me off so I need to listen to that one by itself sometime.

You really should man, I think it may be the best vocal performance I've heard so far this year. I actually ended up being surprised with how exceptional this was.

Best vocal performance is on Karnivool - Change Pt.1 this year for me.
|
| |
See, that is definitely in my top 20 best songs this year, and I won't deny how amazingly well done it was, but it just doesn't compare for me.
