Why would you say we're expecting too much. Listen to "Turn Loose the Swans" or even "The Light at the End of the World" and you'll know our expectations are just about where they should be for this band. Even "...Deathless Kings" was way better than this or the last full length.

Am I the only one that loves "The Angel And The Dark River" to an almost sexual point??

That's my favourite album by these guys hahahaha. Doesn't say much though seeing as I find this band extremely mediocre.

@WillieFisterbut
Ofcourse their old stuff is old, but no matter what kind of album they'll release it will never make an impact that they used to do and so what its not better then their old classics? People do constant comparison whenever an old band comes up with a new album and they're always like "man they're shit compared to what they were in 90s and blah blah.
I say just listen to it, if its good its good if its bad its bad.

I think I understand the points you're trying to make, but they're irrelavent to the discussion. No one would ever expect an EP to make the kind of impact that their classics did, but they do still have the potential to make that kind of impact with current full albums. So, to state that MDB don't have the potential to make the same impact that they did in the nineties is wrong (look at Paradise Lost and Katatonia for similar situations). To sum it up, this EP is shit on it's own merit and compared to the band's discography.

I wasn't debating on the EP to begin with, I said on my first post it was mediocre and the last two albums they released were definitely better. My point was the backlash the last two albums were getting here despite the fact they were solid if not ground breaking.
Anyways to each his own.

wat? A Line Of Deathless Kings is praised quite a bit round these parts
|
| |
When the crap album 3.846 percent what ever gets a 3.3, line of deathless kings gets just a 3.8 and for lies I sire gets a 3.4 its hard for me to see how is it getting praised here?

Because some people are pretending that they "get" 38% whatever and rating it high, despite the fact that the only thing to understand is that it is sterile, boring, poorly written, and features some of Aaron's worst vocal performances.... there's no accounting for taste.

Anything that's rated a 3 or above is still good/ great in the ratings. The albums really aren't that great compared to the rest of their discography or the rest of the sub-genre for that matter. I personally think this band gets too much praise. Just listen to Willie, one of the most honest people on this site ; ).

The decent and the really shitty mdm albums, both got above 3 scores. So theres certainly not much distinction here.
|

Maybe you just need to listen to more doom to realize these guys are mediocre? Just trying to help.

The other two sites have given this album a pretty good score, so unless I was the only person on this planet who thought mdm was above average I would consider the fact mdm isn't hated here.
The only other doom band I have is katatonia. Between is there any other band that comes near to what mdm plays? Aside from candlemass.

Willie and rasputin would help you out more than I could, I just particularly find this band medicore, never really done much for me. You have to also evaluate those two other reviews and tell yourself this; Blistering is a shitty online metal mag and then you have allmusic.com who completely praises the band for dropping everything that made them good in the first place.
|
| |
allmusic.com has to be one of the worst music review sites ever (although they give BTBAM the three star ratings that I have always believed they deserve)

http://metal-archives.com/review.php?id=223397
It had 8 reviews, 1 gave them 25per and another 40per aside from that all 6 members gave it above 80per. That should pretty much sum up that I am not the only who thinks that for lies I sire was well above average.

Well you didnt really have to look at other reviews to see that...
If you look at the ratings here, you'll find that quite a few people have rated it a 4 and above. Some have even rated it as a classic. Also, I dont really see why you're making a fuss. Some people would like it, some wont...it's all opinion.
