sorry bloc :/ haha, and yeah it is autotune, which is shifting the pitch of the voice in order to correct it (thats what i know) and vocoding is just distorting the voice with various filters and such (again just my idea of it)
|
| |
fuhgetaboutit.
yeah, Stargazers is right. autotune is used to correct the voice and it has that "underwater" wet sound when it's applied to the voice in the rawest form. vocoding is playing a patch on top of the original voice and the key can be controlled through an instrument.

that's actually a pretty awesome concept when you think about it if only it was practical
|
| |
i think so too, but i guess it's kinda hard to find a place where it actually is practical.
|
| |
this is true, it really doesn't mesh great with the whole metalcore thing. Combining the euro style dance/techno and autotuned vocals with metal is a good idea on paper, but I don't think we will ever see a band that combines the two and puts out a real good album.
|
| |
it's catch 22 to be honest; in the majority of people's minds (and ESPECIALLY musicians), it'll always be considered cheating.
|
| |
i like fun music but if a band aims at making a fun album, but it sucks immensely then it deserves a low rating. i wont bother rating this because theres no need to.
|
| |
technically yes, but sometimes its used deliberately, but knowing whether it was used to cover up poor singing or as an effect on the singing is kinda a gray area

I like fun music too, but in a credible sense. Fun bands like Pixies, The Hives, Queen, that stuff
|
| |
you're right. that's personally the reason why i don't consider it cheating nor a skillset. we will never know why it's applied to where it's applied.
|
| |
"but I don't think we will ever see a band that combines the two and puts out a real good album."
well i mean its not exactly what you said but have you heard FACT - FACT?
|
| |
Nope, but I will check em out
|
| |
okay okay, everybody shut the fuck up for two seconds and let me say this:
FACT is one of the greatest bands i have EVER heard. the only band i would even CONSIDER giving a 5 on this site.
but yeah, Strikey's got an idea.

Album Rating: 3.5
no.
|
| |
no to shutting the fuck up?
or no to my opinion?
|
| |
heh FACT.
I'm fine with vocoding/autotuning/whatever if it sounds good. Somebody like Imogen Heap who processes her vocals so incredibly much she's barely even there sounds great and that's her sound. Attack Attack! are no Imogen Heap, they are a metalcore band.

no to i just wanted to say no

I wasn't trying to sound like i was defending the album tooth and nail. it really isnt the best music out there. I just simply think there is alot of great bands, that are metalcore that put out good music.
as far as me being upset that people bash on Metalcore, it's your opinion and you're entitled to it, right?
and the entire thing about vocoder and autotuning, i sincerely had no idea that there was that much of a difference.

and while we're at it, strikey. my whole point was to understand why sputnik decides to waste on any band that comes out that follows a similar style that aa! has, go look at any review, or any news feed. you will only see
"gay"
"horrible"
"no talent"
and most people who say this are people who have given the cd a minute of their time and decided it was the worst thing on earth.
Generic sounds are totally up to the person listening. does it mean my taste in music is terrible because i can enjoy a generic CD? maybe, but maybe i am just easier to please.
so that's all i wanted to get off my chest, i diddnt want to be called stupid, or have my ideas thrown on the floor.

Honestly, the autotune, or vocoding(whatever it is), here is most likely a bit of a crutch, but it kinda works with the synth to make a sound that's pretty fun.
Also, not to pick fights here, but Waior, why would it matter that Attack Attack is metalcore in regard to processing their vocals?
Quick edit, I was just looking throught the thread, and I think what Pink Blackberry meant to say is more along the lines of "If you don't like / listen to the genre, don't review it." The exception there is when it's funny.
