Problem is that Weezer has hardly changed musically, but they've lost the edge and charm that their older stuff had in exchange for writing emotionally distant, "perfect" pop songs because Rivers got butthurt from being "too emotional" when Pinkerton didn't sell like crazy

It's terrible that Pinkerton didn't sell like crazy. If it did we may be listening to a much better Weezer right now.

I definitely disagree that this is a step up from the Red Album.
Red at least had this funny ambition about it, first 3 tracks were catchy and fun. Then letting other members sing a song or two showed them doing something different. I liked Red better than make believe and maladroit...but this new one seems like he's going for self parody and it was clearly more tongue-in-cheek in Red. Red as a whole works better for me.
this new one seems forced and bland. I'm not even a huge fan but it seems only the color albums are any good (ok pinkerton is mostly great)

I like If You're Wondering, because it gives off a different vibe than the rest, it doesn't feel as forced as everything else does. Thats what I felt like about the red album/make believe too, they don't sound natural.

Love is the Answer might be my favorite just cause it sounded interesting musically rather than sounding like every Weezer song ever.

I haven't heard this but I think some people now get so excited at the prospect of non-terrible Weezer that they call it good when actually it's just mildly better than the worst thing ever.

I actually really like this more than I had thought.
Ths should be the track listing though:
1. If you're wondering
2. I'm Your Daddy
3. Girl Got Hot
4. Can't Stop Partying
5. Put me back together
6. Trippin' Down the Freeway
7. Get Me Some
8. Prettiest Girl in the Whole Wide World
9. Let it All Hang Out
10. The Underdogs
with that track listing, this could have been a four.

I'm somewhat interested in this for some reason. Except for the guest spot from Weezy, that's pretty lame man I'm sorry. This isn't 1999, besides that I may pick this up.
|

As in that, I mean guest spots from rappers, not Lil Wayne specifically

Plinkertons, I agree 100% with that tracklist. I have absolutely no idea how Love Is The Answer or In The Mall made it into the album over songs like Get Me Some or Prettiest Girl In The Whole Wide World.

I bet Rivers pushed for Love is the Answer, even though it's just retarded. This is good news though, at least we know that Weezer can put out ten good-great tracks on an album. Maybe their next one is their true return to glory?
