Can't believe I didn't know about this album until last year.

This band use to be experimental mathcore wtf. Kind of unbelievable how tame they are here.

I love it, it's a distinctly different album from their others. It was initially never meant to be a Candiria album, John LaMacchia originally started writing for the first Spylacopa record and wanted to do an alt. metal album that paid homage to 90s influences like Tool, instead they used it for the new Candiria record. If I'm not mistaken the band wrote and recorded everything in two weeks, then it got shelved by the label indefinitely until Type A released the unmastered / unmixed tracks on streaming services (without the band's permission). After that, LaMacchia and Candiria self-mixed, edited and mastered it and released what we have now

That is insane. The weird story of Candiria once again has another weird chapter. No wonder I didn't hear about it. It's been bothering me for almost two years now that I missed the follow up to one of my favorite albums ever. This album is still growing on me. I definitely always saw the Tool vibe especially in Icarus Syndrome.

This has some songs that make Tool look like amateurs

Yeah, they're what Tool could be if they tried harder and went more aggro. Candiria has an obvious hardcore / metalcore aspect to their music that Tool doesn't do, but the band is infinitely more creative with their riffs and composition, imo. Danny Carey is a monster but I'd put Kenneth right up there with creativity (on a basic kit setup too) and the rest of Candiria can play rings around Adam and Justin easy

Btw, Kenneth Schalk has been releasing drum tutorials and lessons for Candiria songs on YouTube, along with discussions about the recording of their records. Such a great / humble / brilliant / friendly guy youtube.com/c/KenSchalkMusic

Just watched a Carly interview in 2001 and he says Tool is his favorite band so that explains a lot of this album lmao. The tool worship worked out really fucking good though.

I still come back to this occasionally. Kind of surprised the band hasn't made the vinyl / remixed version the standard on the streaming sites
