fireaboveicebelow you think Check My Brain sucks? It reminded me of their 90s material instantly. I thought it was incredibly lackluster compared to the new direction of the opener track, so perhaps it was simply where the track was placed

Jerry Cantrell has this knack for making dissonant stuff really catchy.

If that's actually the worst on this album then I really need to pick this up.

Check My Brain is fine, at least it's fun to sing along with. I think Last of My Kind is probably the worst, I got pretty nervous about the album after listening to it my first time through.

So far so good, gotta listen a bit more to decide. Going at a 4 i think.

and just some constructive criticism for the review.
you're too comma heavy. It reads awkward. All I see are sentences with misplaced commas and areas where you could have replaced a comma with something more fitting to make it flow better.
you don't have to add a comma before every "and or but".
this is really only prominent in your first couple of paragraphs but the problem is still there through the review.

In my opinion, this is the only album in the Top 10 for 2009 here on Sputnik that actually deserves to be there...

I'm officially dedicating comment #700 to Alice In Chains for giving us a wonderful comeback that is no way a letdown! Here's to many more years of AIC!

"All Secrets Known" is, honestly, a terrible way for a legendary band to open an album this important. Slow, tuneless, and unsure of its footing, the song kills four minutes of time before the real Alice In Chains steps out of the shadows.
=========================
Are you kidding?! I kinda freaked out a little during this song the first time I heard it because it's such a great song, and I had been nervous that this album would totally suck.
That said, William DuVall is no Layne. Not even close. He can hit the notes, but he's lacking the power in his voice that Layne had.

This. Whoever said DuVall doesn't have Layne's power is sorely mistaken.
