because, like Scott Walker, it's not like the old stuff, we want the old stuff

you know in the "proper commenting" bit in the Brilliant Trees thread you mistook for some snide jab? 'ol Egadsby will show you the way with his ~unique~ commentary on how D.S. is unhealthy because he doesn't want to do pop music anymore

i'm personally glad he's opted to retire from touring if this the audience he has to deal with

Yeah I did Fripp, had no context. Sorry about that btw, wouldn't have said what I said if I knew the joke. And yeah his comments are pretty lolbad.

I'm jamming this album rn, let's do this. The lines "Where's my queen of hearts? My royal flush.

I have cleaned and scrubbed her decks. My suicide, my better days. There's nothing I regret" kills me and idk why yet.

I find Sylvian's greatest strength to be his lyricism, so I find the complaints about his new direction to be incredibly tone-deaf. It's still the same Sylvian, just under a new guise.

For me the greatest strength of this is how the sharp the sound is on this and it feels like any melody can stop at any time. Plus the nuanced detail in this omg it's amazing, like the backdrop in Emily Dickinson. The lyrics in this are great as well.

Absolutely. I highly recommend the Manafon Variations, which has this music with an orchestral backing and a few new songs as well. It's also worth the album prior to this, Blemish, is perhaps his greatest achievement and my personal favorite of his. According to the man himself, it was his best received critically, while the one everyone flocks to (Secrets of the Beehive) was considered his critical nadir (and I can gladly back this up with an interview explicitly stating this, in case someone feels the need to object with this being his ~ishtar~)
